I am very pleased with my 360. The graphics, when hooked up to a HDTV, are excellent. It's not as ugly as the first XBox and there are plenty of good games for it.
Playing tennis on my Wii is knackering. But such good fun, even when I lose!0 -
I want a Wii
Pre ordered it from play.com in september, still waiting, I might start to look else where0 -
The thing that gets me, when talking about games, is exclusives. For example, you know that 95% of all games released on XBOX 360 WILL appear on another format (remember the news not so long ago that XBOX360 would have the "exclusive" GTA4? About a month later it had been confirmed for PS3 aswell!). However, the same can't be said for the Wii. There are so many exclusive titles in development (even the new SSX is going to be Wii only) so for a serious gamer, it seems the Wii should be players choice.
I'm not going to even get into a debate about graphics over gameplay...
If we think of the greatest games of all time, how many are due to graphical capabilities? The only area in which the PS3 and XBOX 360 "beat" the Wii is in graphical processing (including physics, textures etc...)
So what?! Graphics, for me, will always be second best to playability.0 -
Watching the latest Wii adverts, to me they are trying to aim it more at the whole family, or even the older members of the family rather than just the young who can remember all the keystrokes to play the fast and furious games. I used to enjoy playing games when it was back in Amiga days (yes I know I am showing my age) but the latest "Top of the range" games don't appeal to me at all. What has caught my eye is the Brain teaser type of game advertised, but probably too tight to buy one just for that. Any chance there is a similar option for the PC? Don't forget the "grey" economy is supposedly one of the biggest.Member #8 of the SKI-ers Club
Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0 -
I have a 360 and a PS3 (no Wii so I can't compare that), and for me the 360 wins hands down - the interface is much more intuitive, its online support is great, and there are no synchronisation issues with the controllers (unlike the PS3).
Graphics wise there's little between the two, and although the 360 has been out for a year the developers for first party games like Resistance for the PS3 have had just as long to optimise their games as the guys who made Gears of War.
Plusses for the PS3 are it's quiet, has the Blu ray drive if you're into that sort of thing, and is very shiny!0 -

I wouldn't say it's quite that high, although you at right. Still that's not a bad thing if the PS3 and 360 share a title, especially not if it's a good one. The 360 does have quite a few exclusives such as Halo 3, Gears Of War, Splinter Cell 5, Project Gotham Racing 4.gantybop wrote:If we think of the greatest games of all time, how many are due to graphical capabilities? True, although not quite that simple. Some of the greatest games wouldn't have been so great without decent graphics. Quake for example. And a more recent example being Oblivion. Without pushing the graphical boundaries, we'd still be stuck on space invaders. By giving developers more power, it allows them to innovate more. The Wii has just taken a different direction by giving the developers more possiblities in terms of controls and interaction.
Also gameplay isn't strictly related to the controller. The game itself has to be playable, and respond well. The Wii may have a great controller, but without the right games it's pointless."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -
The difference is that you can actually BUY an Xbox 360...0

Wolfman, you couldn't be more right about the gameplay not being strictly controller related, but can PS3 or XBOX offer the immersion that the Wii will? We know from their track record that Nintendo's 1st party titles will be simply amazing (have you checked out the reviews for twighlight princess yet?)
As for the exclusives, I wouldn't bet on splinter cell 5 just yet
As you said, some of the greatest games wouldn't have been great without decent graphics, which i believe is a little misconception. If it requires great graphics to make it great, then is it truely? Will next gen graphics offer us anything new? Call me old fashioned (lol) , but resident evil 4 graphics will be more than adequete for the forseeable future.
I see the next gen graphics buzz as an excuse for lazy programmers to essientailly release a substandard game that will sell well anyway because it looks pretty. I want them to offer something new, no better looking, and so far, Nintendo are the only chaps doing this0 -

Hmmm. Might be worth checking out the trailer for "Portal", then - that's something pretty innovative and new, and does require a fair bit of processing power. Giving programmers more power to play with for graphics, realistic physics (another recent innovation), and ai can only be a good thing.
Personnally I'm loathe to pay £180 to Nintendo for what is fundamentally an overclocked gamecube - I'll probably get one (as you say, Nintendo 1st party titles are normally great), but not at that price!0 -
I just play games on my PC, thus saving me hundreds on the cost of a console, and due to no Sony/MS etc licensing agreements games can be sold much cheaper too.
None of the 3 look anything much over PC games that are now a year or so old. HL2 or D3 anyone? PC games will be way ahead by this time next year, shame they dont have the same kind of market.Debt: a bloomin big mortgage
