Top Man do trousers and jeans starting at a 26" waist. DS2 (14) had jeans 28"/34" last year from there. He's starting to fill out a bit so can get away with a 30" waist now, but sadly his legs don't seem to have stopped growing yet! I'm not looking forward to finding school trousers in the next couple of weeks!

    It's only a game

I have this with my 6 year old - he's tall and slim (very slim) like his father, although he eats enough for half a dozen 6 year olds.

He hates trousers, and insists on wearing dungarees. Problem solved!

I read with interest! my nearly 5 year old has a tiny tiny waist, not an ounce of fat. she went to school last september and wore pinafores and then summer dresses. Ive no idea what will happen when Im looking for skirts and trousers (she'll be in a skirt up to her knickers just to get the waist right!) tights were a nightmare!

we've found next to be quite good, baby gap, boden, h and m and boots. shes had a few bits from primark that have always done well with the fit - we dont have one near us so I'll bear it in mind for next time I see one.
Off to France soon and the stuff over there is quite small.

this year she still fits all the tops (age 3-4) and dresses and skirts from last year (age 2-3 mainly). Some of the dresses are now being classed as tops with shorts or jeans under them! The trousers are all too short now so Im on the hunt for longer ones.

the worst place I've found for her is matalan. their things are huge on her!
  • My daughter is the same she has a size 3-4 year old waist but a 7 year old leg. I have tried all brands including skinnies and the waist is too big and the adjustable waist just pull things out of shapes and they look awful on her.

she is very particular about her clothes and we don't know what to do, any advice?
  • just google 'british home stores size guide' and it will take you to the list of sizes in cm unfortunately so good luck finding a tape measure!

I have this problem too with DS. Anyone found a cheaper alternative to Next to avoid the bunched up waist syndrome?

I know it sounds a little make-shift, but I fold my daughter's trouser's waistbands at the sides (into an S shape about an inch) and sew them flat. That will take about 4 inches off the waist size and I think it looks better than the "bunched-up elastic" look.

My 10 year old is the same build as yours OP. I buy his jeans and other trousers from Next or M&S as they have the adjustable waists. They are a nice fit on him.
