Orange & A Major Head Ache :\

Hi people

Hope you are ok.

I am having a major head ache with these idiots

I took out an iphone 11 months ago and my screen has cracked, unusable as sharps are coming from the screen. I have contacted orange asking them what they would advise, they said as i have no mobile insurance they would only advise me to see apple.

Now i took my mobile phone to apple to have it looked at and they guy said i would have to pay £300+ to have the phone replaced as the LCD screen has also cracked. I refused to pay this as i only have 13 months on my contract left.

Now i rung orange again saying apple refuse to fix the phone and im now left with no mobile.

The guy advised me to buy a £10 phone from asda, tesco. I argued with him saying why should i buy a cheap phone not get the full benefits from it pay you £35 a month for nothing i said if i buy a cheap phone can i have my bills lowered his reply was well youd lose most your minutes, most your texts and your mobile internet and all you will save is £5 a month

These are giving me a major head ache now

ive tried to pop into citizens advice today but they was closed and ive contacted orange twice and had no reply off them

Why are Orange at fault? Either pay for a repair yourself or buy a spare phone to put you on.

You can keep the full benefits with a phone for as little as £50 (Motorola Flipout) or £100 (OSF, LG Optimus Me).

Did you drop your phone? can you claim on your house contents insurance?

There are some individual companies online that will repair an iphone. Not sure if that includes the LCD screen but maybe worth shopping around.

I can't see what Orange have done wrong here. They are not a charity - you pay them monthly for your minutes/texts/data & contribute towards the cost of the handset. If you then damage it why should Orange have to repair / replace it?

If you didn't insure it then I would be very surprised if Orange DID offer to replace it.

They way I see it, you either have to stump up the cost of repair, buy a new phone, or try and claim from your home insurance.

The price of an out of warranty replacement iPhone from Apple is 146.44 not 300. Information is clearly printed at http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=servicefaq&geo=United_Kingdom&product=iphone and the service is available via mail in or in an 'Official' Apple Store.

Just because you bought the iphone from them doesnt mean they have to replace/repair it.

Thats what the insurance they offer you is for!

jdaco6's link shows apples info on this. It shows that their limited warranty lasts 12 months from new and offers replacements free of charge.

I quote: "Apple's Limited Warranty for iPhone covers your iPhone for one year. Warranty service for eligible repairs is available at no charge for twelve months from the date of original retail purchase"

That's not strictly true. The OP entered into a contract with Orange, not Apple.

From what I know apple don't generally fix mobiles though they will swap them out with another refurbished one for 120 odd pounds or so. You could also try your luck trying to find some high-street that could replace the screen for you. At the end of the day this is not Orange's problem but its yours unless the phone spontaneously cracked its screen under normal use, which isn't so likely

The cost of a sim only contract with a good amount of minutes data and texts is around the £5-£10 mark, the rest of the money you are paying a month is towards your handset. So your not paying £35 for nothing your paying the money towards the handset that I assume you broke. If you don't agree to a contract of paying £35 a month then don't take it out!
