I think we will go for Camp Curry too
Furnace Creek is a bit pricey (remember I'm still to get OH hooked on US holidays so don't want to scare him ;) ) but Long Street Inn looks like a good option.

However with the pass closed it's 8 hours Yosemite to DV so I think an overnight stop enroute- maybe Fresno ?

Hoover Dam is also on OH's bucket list so thinking of that before arriving in Vegas as it's on the way.

I booked Furnace Creek off Trivago, via a German tour operator and it worked out abot 2/3rds the UK price - very odd.

Yes. It's a good place, scenic but not spectacular like Yosemite or Sequoia. I enjoyed taking a leisurely drive right round the lake. If it's of any interest I stayed in the Motel 6 which suited me perfectly.

It's certainly very different to the Los Angeles urban megalopolis.

If you wish, you can take a virtual wander round in Google Maps StreetView and there are some videos on YouTube.

Thanks John, we are just thinking of stopping 1 night on our way from LA to Palm Springs. Looking at Cozy Hollow Lodge.

It's a lovely spot (as John said it's no Yosemite, but it is a lovely place). The drive up to it is great too. The village centre is nice with plenty of restaurants and shops etc.

You can go up the mountains on the ski lifts, even if its summer which is nice for a walk around and the views.

I'd definitely recommend it if you're in the area anyway and need a night stop.

Yay hey - we're off to California again in 2016. We're only managing 6 nights - but half a loaf is better than no loaf at all.

    Woohoo! Where are you going?
