    We didn't do it.
DD and ex-H walked some distance down one of the trails but they both have a good head for heights.
I don't. I made it less than 50 yards and had to go back.

If your husband has nerves of steel I'm sure he'll be fine :D

This is on my husband's bucket list.

Has anyone done this with no experience of horses and riding?

    How scary was it?

I've done the one at Bryce Canyon and it was fab.

Being an inexperienced rider I don't think is a problem at either as I believe they have mules for all abilities.

I used to ride horses when I was younger but hadn't been on one for probably 15 years - the scariest bit was the mule deciding to trot off of its own accord without any warning to catch up to the one in front which made me slip a stirrup  This was fine at Bryce as the drops are nowhere near as sharp, but put me off ever doing the Grand Canyon one as I am NOT good with heights and think I'd spend the whole ride terrified of falling!

Its actually me that I was asking about. DH will be fine.
I've never been on a horse and i think the mules are larger. From reading up, they do have mules that are suitable for a beginner or child. Apparently 80% of riders have no experience.
Saw some great videos on youtube of 1st timers. (Saw what you mean about them catching up:rotfl: ) It looks like it would take me right out of my comfort zone and quite honestly scare the life out of me but makes me think it would be so worth it.
As for heights, I "think" I am OK. I was here at Horseshoe

Loved our trip to the West Coast USA. Death Valley is the place to go!
