Hi, I got a letter this morning too, saying that someone is going to visit me at home next Thursday and that I should have ID ready because "a query has arisen on my claim". I am claiming IS and HB after splitting from my partner in January, and since then nothing has changed - I'm not working, have two small children and live on my own, although my ex does visit most days (never stays over and we are not in a relationship anymore) to see the kids. I started claiming in February so could this just be a new claim visit too, or is it something more serious? I know I don't have anything to worry about as I'm doing nothing wring, but the way the letter is worded still has me panicking! So, there are these boys,
They kinda stole my heart,
They call me Mummy

its designed to

generally they just check you exist and are who you say you are.
Though if your ex is visiting a lot they may have a suspicion he's staying.
still no problem if no signs of him living there.
think you can stop them looking around but that tends to raise red flags.
stay calm and stay polite.0 -
I had the same thing a few years ago and it's nothing to worry about. Just show them what they need to see, you'll be fine

hi there, i too am getting one of these visits. we are a middle aged couple, husband is my carer. we hardly go out only when i am fit. the visit will be next thurs. i know we have done nothing wrong but like people have said that people can be nasty and dob you in for anything. i feel sick, dont want to eat. what is upsetting me the most is i have to be hoisted some mornings and my hubby waits for carer to help get me up. they say the call maybe 8.30. what do i do? ask them to sit in the lounge till im got up? let them come into the bedroom? is there any other reason they do these visits? thanks peeps0

Make them wait for hours or tell thekm its not convenient and to come back later. Your disability comes first and I certainly wouldn't move any mountains for them. If it is a malicious allegation based on no real evidence - make it clear to them how annoyed you are and do your best to complain in writing.
I had to wait for one of those compliance home interviews - It transpired that after years of being a single parent dad and receiving absolutely no money whatsover in maintenance from her mum she decided to fill in forms saying she was paying £30 a week. Fortunately the compliance Officer believed me and didn't stay that long but the stress and worry leading up to the interview can take its toll on many people.
I think when its proved to be malicious then the perpetrator should be charged and sent to court and given a custodial sentence.0 -

I just wanted to say how much I agree with you. I know somebody who had malicious accusations made against them by a vindictive ex-partner and had a visit from a DWP Customer Compliance Person.
It caused massive stress on somebody with mental health problems to receive a letter threatening to suspend their benefits without giving an explanation of why.
It is so wrong how people can make false accusations, cause distress and get away with this0
