Bit of a rant about having to pay for delivery

We have been out to buy a new bed today. We have a fairly new memory foam mattress so just needed the bed frame. We shopped around and eventually found one that we wanted in Bensons For Beds that was in the sale and £100 cheaper than an identical one we'd seen elsewhere and it came with 2 free underbed storage drawers which was a bonus.

Anyway we came to order it and were told that delivery was £37.50 on all items, so we asked if it could be ordered in and I would come and pick it up in my mates van. They told us that because of health and safety people can't collect from the shop unless it's small enough to carry such as a pillow set or duvet as someone could be injured or something could be damaged by carrying large items through the shop.

We paid for delivery which saves a bit of messing about and still spent less than we'd set out to but I find it a bit silly that everyone who wants to buy from them have no choice but to pay the £37.50 unless they want to shop elsewhere.

Shop elsewhere if you don't want to pay a fee.

I would have done but I couldn't get the one we wanted any cheaper elsewhere.

I was just having a bit of a rant that they don't offer any other option to get the product apart from paying the £37.50. Like I say it's saved a bit of messing about and it still worked out cheaper than the other place we'd seen that frame.

Fair point. I was just having a moan about it that's all.

I would have insisted they let you pick it up from the store, I wonder what they would have said if you had said dont bother then, we'll get it from somewhere else.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

So even paying the £37.50 it was still cheaper? Don't see what the fuss is really.

There isn't a fuss. I fancied a bit of a moan about it so I did it in the vent section of the forum. I just thought with it just being the bed frame it's going to come in bits anyway so thought I might have been able to pick it up rather than pay delivery. It's no big deal though!!

Strange shop. So all their deliveries come into the shop through the front door fully assembled. Otherwise you could have picked up the relevent boxes at their back door.

I know a retailer I once worked for gave the staff a pretty good commission on the delivery charge......

Oh look, the bit**y brigade is here again.

I see what you mean, I would be annoyed if I had to spend an extra 40 quid on compulsory delivery. Stupid H&S rubbish.
