So apart from it being a 12 month contract, you get 10% less cashback, you pay nearly twice as much for the phone, 50% more for the monthly payments for which in return you get just over 1/3 the minutes and infinitely less data which is a VERY important consideration for a smartphone.

    And thats a good deal?

Well the tenor of a contract really does make a big difference cause once the contract expires you ca switch to much cheaper sim only deals. Some of these much cheaper deals also have unlimited data example giffgaff. Ofcourse if you truly need the 2000 minutes for use, I can understand the value of the 3 plan. So deals should be compared taking into account your expected usage.

Wow, i hadn't realised just how expensive iphone contracts are!
Have you considered one of the many other phones that are as good or better and far cheaper?

These other phones are not iphones though :D, to the poster i would suggest you wait 2 weeks if possible. the reason for this is apples keynote is in the first week of june where I believe they will announce the Iphone 5 and there will be cheaper deals avaliable on the 4 :)

On Three's ONE plan, the SIM only package is only £10 a month cheaper than with the iPhone 4, saving you a whole £309 over the term of the contract. You cannot buy a new iPhone 4 for £310.

    Hello :)

£42.00 for the first 9 months
£37.00 after first 9 months (I can ring up and 'downgrade' by that time)

Do you actually have that in writing?

Search on here and you'll find complaints that most operators don't do this any more.

You can downgrade once half way through your contract with o2.

I would have thought that when you lower the tariff after 9 months, your minutes will drop to 300 in line with O2's 18 month tariff. And the phone is some £60 cheaper than the advertised price.

O2 are notorious for not doing deals on iPhone, unless you spend lots and lots with them.

Also, existing O2 customers are supposed to be able to get 12 month contract renewals - did you ask about this?

I'm due an upgrade in mid-June, and I'm wondering whether to go for the iPhone 4 or wait for the next one - I'll probably sit tight and wait to see what Apple announce in a little over two weeks time.
No I didn't get it in writing but I took the man's name down although I asked for an extension number and he just said to ring and ask for retentions.

I didn't ask about the existing customers 12 month renewal thing but I did ask which phones they could do me on 12 month renewals and the new iphone wasn't one of them! :(

That's what he said don't know if they'd do it or not.

I've decided to just downgrade the contract for now and keep the phone I have. Can't justify the amount they want for the iphone 4.

Yes I spoke to the operator about other phones too, but for example they want £37 a month for the Samsung galaxy, and £37 a month for the new HTC. Not much cheaper than an iphone! I'd rather keep iphone because it has an ipod as well which you can't get with any other phone.
