Opinions on this iPhone 4 offer
Hello
I've had an iPhone 3GS for 24 months in June so it's time for the upgrade haggling to begin! Basically I'd much prefer to upgrade to the iPhone 4 but I don't like the idea of another 24 month contract especially with noises about the iPhone 5 circling. I've been speaking to o2 retentions and here's what they've offered me:
iPhone 4 Black
Cost of phone £81.40
18 months contract
£42.00 for the first 9 months
£37.00 after first 9 months (I can ring up and 'downgrade' by that time)
600 minutes
Unlimited texts
500 mb data
20 picture messages
This deal is much better than anything they could offer me when I went to the shop, but as far as (loyal!) customer retentions go is this any good?
Another option is to keep the phone I have and decrease the amount of money per month I pay but for this to happen they still want £21.50 a month which I think is quite a lot to say I'm not choosing to upgrade the phone and have paid £35 a month for 2 years!!!
Any thoughts?
Helen

Iphone 4 on Three's ONE plan.
Iphone 4 Black OR White 16GB.
Cost of Phone £69.99
Contract: 24 months.
Monthly cost: £35
Calls: 2000 cross network, 5000 3 to 3 calls.
Texts: 5000
Data: All-you-can-eat and marketed as such. No "unlimited means 3GB".
Oh, and to add to that, last time I checked there was £109 Cashback on Quidco for this.0 -
I looked at 3's offers but the problems I found were
1) it's 3 and they have poor signal according to this website and a few others
2) they want me to sign up for 24 months which is just annoying!
However the Quidco thing is very interesting..."A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on" - Winston Churchill0 -
How about Vodafone done through Quidco (£100 cashback)
Iphone 4 16GB
12 month contract
1200 minutes
750mb data
Unlimited texts
Phone £129
Tariff £50 per month
Total annual before cashback £729
After cashback £629
This cashback deal expires tomorrow though!0 -

Did you get the O2 offer in writing?
I would have thought that when you lower the tariff after 9 months, your minutes will drop to 300 in line with O2's 18 month tariff. And the phone is some £60 cheaper than the advertised price.
O2 are notorious for not doing deals on iPhone, unless you spend lots and lots with them.
Also, existing O2 customers are supposed to be able to get 12 month contract renewals - did you ask about this?
I'm due an upgrade in mid-June, and I'm wondering whether to go for the iPhone 4 or wait for the next one - I'll probably sit tight and wait to see what Apple announce in a little over two weeks time.0 -

1) Do your own research. Just because they couldn't be bothered then bought a phone only to find poor/no network coverage doesn't mean everyone is the same.
2) But you're OK with 18 months which isn't really that much shorter and getting a far worse deal? I could see your point if it were a 30 day contract but 18 months?0 -

So apart from it being a 12 month contract, you get 10% less cashback, you pay nearly twice as much for the phone, 50% more for the monthly payments for which in return you get just over 1/3 the minutes and infinitely less data which is a VERY important consideration for a smartphone.
And thats a good deal?0 -

Yeah, it is if you get NO SERVICE appearing often, or the dreaded GPRS circle. :rotfl:
But you are right, check coverage on the networks map.0 -

Well yes, there is that I suppose, LOL.
I doff my hat to your superior counter-arguing abilities.

Another option would be the buy the phone outright and get a much better value sim only contract.Phone cost is around £500 though.
