Why people are giving up selling on Ebay.

It's only a Monopoly if ebay are restricting others trade. They are not they are just successful. People moan about ebay there are other selling platforms. There is Play.com, Amazon, ebid, Gumtree your local papers. Amazon is the only major player and there fees are far higher and they are far more draconian with seller compliance (they make ebay look like fluffy bunnnies).
You do have a point and I'll have to find out more about those options. None of those options search ebay results in addition to their own. Was it ebid who tried it but ebay stopped them? Only Gumtree allows me to list and buy the things I want, I've never seen anything of core used value on Amazon because it matches with new items, confusing the market - aka the used items are not unique to the used market, you can buy a new one if you like.
Perhaps we should have a compare the meerkat type of site that searches them all.
When I buy something I go straight to ebay without even checking any of the other sites because of it's size, which is lazy. It would be nice to avoid use of Paypal. This has been enforced in the US but not here, so that aspect has been ruled as anti competitive by the US.
In addition I'd argue that the sheer size of ebay makes it stand out. To visualise, if it was a physical shop representing used goods it would it be all the supermarkets rolled into one apart from just the Co-op representing all the alternatives? I just don't think people choose ebay out of choice, out of habit I can accept. Anyone with me on this? Another supporting thing is the use of the ebay noun as a verb. So there's 3 reasons there to counter.
The capitalist view is to defend a large company. I understand that view and it is the dominent one.
I argue that that view is missing the greatest opportunity we have to change the world, that it's when a market ISN'T functioning that we have problems, whether it's high pay for doctors, the NHS, mobile phone networks, trains, everything? Certainly a communist approach of fighting the market doesn't work but at least can we try to help free it up to act normally and help us?
You are right though, there has to be a line drawn in the sand to only intervene when it's fair to do so, and that for ebay has to be - has it cheated? I say yes it has, both with Paypal and with search APIs.Order of events: Banks lose our money -> get bailed out -> were inflating GBP to cover it -> now taxing us -> next will grab your funds direct -> things get really desperate to balance the books. What should have happened?: banks go bust and we lost our money much quicker0 -
Google should set one up and put Ebay to the bottom of its search pages. Google checkout could replace paypal

Google should set one up and put Ebay to the bottom of its search pages. Google checkout could replace paypal

The problem is if google did launch an auction site and insist people use their checkout instead of paypal then it would get no buyers. No buyer is going to use Google checkout which has little or no buyer protection when they could use paypal on ebay and get full buyer protection.
I had a Google checkout account and about the fourth time I used it I had an issue with the company not sending my goods. When i tried to raise a complaint I was told that google basically weren't interested as buyers had no protection using their service. Obviously my aco!!!! was then closed.
Auction sites need buyers and buyers like to know they are safe, sellers are easy to get.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. It was locked as someone objected to us suggesting that you refuse the cancellation & it all got quite pathetic.
There's a surprise that it's been relisted at a higher price.
As I said before do refuse the cancellation, and leave - fb.0 -
It's never occured to me to request a mutual when items are lost in the post. Maybe I will start :think:They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0
