I've been online since 1985 and the good old days of BBSs using 300bps acoustic couplers on the old BBC Micros at school. Heard it all, seen it all, been threatened with it all over the decades...all amounting to nought.

There's surely a competitor going to come out one day against ebay's monopoly. The only thing stopping it is not being allowed (due to the OFT's non actions) to search ebay results in addition to it's own.
Order of events: Banks lose our money -> get bailed out -> were inflating GBP to cover it -> now taxing us -> next will grab your funds direct -> things get really desperate to balance the books. What should have happened?: banks go bust and we lost our money much quicker

Hands up anyone who has successfully got re-imbursement from the Royal Mail for items lost in the post.
I have as have many other sellers on this board

The aggravation of going through a claim makes it completely pointless for a 99p item.
If your too lazy to ask for a form aty the post office fill it in and hand it nback with a copy of your listing that's not mys problem

And how do you work out they get their FVF back twice? The one from the sale is removed from the invoice - zero money goes to the seller. Where does the second one come from? Certainly not Ebay.
I'll make this simple so even you can understand it. You sell the item you get paid from the money you get you pay the FVF. If you get a refund from royal mail you get the full price back so that will cover what was paid for a FVF. If you do a mutual you get your final value fee back so in reality you get the equivalent of 2 FVFs back. If you cant see that basic bit of maths there's no hope.

To expect a personal seller to know how RM works and the refund process is asking a bit much. My first claim including findint the right section on the website, trying to speak to a human, then downloading form printing etc took well over half an hour, this was for a petrol flap worth £15. So claiming the whole cost back from RM may seem like an easy suggestion but in practice for 99p items its too much hassle
As above if your too lazy not my problem.

There has been plenty of competitors in the past but most gave up and referred their customer base to ebay. Only 6-7 years ago there were at least 2 other fairly large competitors.

Most of us 'older' sellers didn't even start of fon ebay as when we started ebay was not the biggest in the UK and we had our own UK aucitons, I was on Freeserve auctions for a good while before ebay.uk came along.

It's only a Monopoly if ebay are restricting others trade. They are not they are just successful. People moan about ebay there are other selling platforms. There is Play.com, Amazon, ebid, Gumtree your local papers. Amazon is the only major player and there fees are far higher and they are far more draconian with seller compliance (they make ebay look like fluffy bunnnies).

There is a reason ebay is where the buyers are at. Sellers have a choice they do not have to sell there. Constantly moaning and thinking customers are the enemy doesn't do anyone any good. If they don't like it sell elsewhere. Open a Bricks and Mortar shop and find out how much that'sll cost to run and how much it'll cost. Set up a stand alone website and find out how much it'll cost in marketing to get worldwide exposure like ebay. It's not cheap or easy.

it is a legitimate reason, like any reason or not reason at all, if you are a business seller

It is the law for fixed price items under distance selling regulations to allow the buyer 7 days to 'change their mind'. Zappos have become very big after initiating such a policy in the US.
