    Commit charge
    total 303104

i dont understand the significance of this though

The functional significance is that the peak memory usage should be within the physical memory size, otherwise the system has to refer to the 'swap file' or 'virtual memory' to use instead (which is a lot slower).

Using the commit charge is a guide to reducing the resource usage, and also an indicator if performance issues relate to bottlenecks from memory.

    Your first ........... Your second
    total 491736 ...... 303104
    limit 2524336 .... 252320
    peak 654112 ...... 436764

The memory is in kilobytes rather than mb. In both cases you were using less than
    1gb RAM even at peak.

    Here's a very simple explanation:

So as long as the peak figure is less than 1gb (is that 1000000) i am ok but the smaller the figure the faster my pc will operate?

Generally speaking, as it usually means there's less running when you do it from a before/after comparison. And yes to the first question.

How is it running now, still slow?

    Did you install cleanmem?

Us the startup tab in msconfig to disable these items from running at startup

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - .DEFAULT User Startup: AutoTBar.exe (User 'Default user')

not sure if you've done the quicktime change already?

Still got nokia software installed, do you need it?

    O23 - Service: ServiceLayer - Nokia - C:\Program Files\Nokia\PC Connectivity Solution\ServiceLayer.exe

I suggest you create a macrium boot cd from the macrium menu, and test booting with it and check to see it can see your backup drive, don't do a restore, just check the boot disk works

When everything is running nicely do a new backup, then if anything goes wrong you can recover everything as it is now

    Thanks for help

I have disabled quicktime in startup tab but it reappears evrytime i boot up.

I cant find default user start up under the start up tab, I did try to get hijacker to fix it but again it is still there in hijack after bootup.

    Nokia program now gone

Yes PC is booting up and working much quicker thanks.

I will do that macrium boot cd (will it fit on a CD) later thanks

yes it will fit on a cd.

you could try renaming qttask.exe to qttask.old to stop it loading, but you could just leave it.

an alternative to msconfig is autoruns

Install macrium and run it, and it'll give you an option to make a cd.
