The only problem we've found is a slight tendency to stall as you go into reverse if you have an automatic one (and even then only very rarely).

We did put proper Corbeau racing seats into ours but that probably has far more to do with hubby's driving than anything else.

£1995 for a nine yr old PT Cruiser?

I wouldn't pay that for an 05 plate.

Next door neighbour bought one on a 52plate 3 yrs ago for that price.

And yes it did break and they couldn't find the parts to fix it, i think the main problems it had were the exhaust was falling off, engine made some serious expensive sounding noises but i think the final iaaue was the crappy autobox giving up the ghost.

They cost a fortune to service, parts cost a fortune.

They have had a tendancy, at least in London, of attracting the, erm, kind of owner that thinks putting on a used tyre to get through the MOT is the same as an annual service.

I liked the look of them when they came out but they were rubbish on fuel, we are talking mid twenties around a urban environment.

The later CRD ones had a Merc engine and where economical so i would go for one of those if i was ever to buy one.

They never sold in large numbers so almost all spares are main dealer only.

I would pass, at almost 10 yrs old it will be due a cambelt and god knows what else would need doing.

Up to you at the end of the day, but not to be recommended unless the one you are buying has solid main dealer service history and has had all the expensive things changed.

The clue why is in red.;)

All the issues started after purchase.

It was on the point of no return when they bought it.

You know, when the period of minimal maintenance is about to result in a large number of big ticket items.

    Cambelt, autobox service, multibelt etc.

All it got was some second hand tyres ans run for a month every year with no roadtax.

But it had chrome wheels which seemed to make the neighbours happy.

I had gone to a few auctions ro get them an automatic family car, i found them an 03plate Avensis auto in a lovely burgandy colour with biscuit leather and factory satnav, a bit up on miles but full Toyota History, they said it was too expensive when the bids went past 2 grand. It eventually went to £2200, including fees about £2400 as i had a trader account at the time.

I had to laugh when they turned up in the piece of American rubbish.

I don't think the Toyota would have cost them a penny, byt remember this is the person that broke a Toyota Rav4 by running it dry on oil, i did the one and only oil change in the 3 yrs he owned it. When i emptied the sump it had 2 litres if sludge in it, he said he had been checking the oil every month! When i asked him to show me he had been checking the autobox dipstick!

I thought it was impossible to break a Toyota! Apparently not if you try hard enough.

2.2 CRD Owner since 04. No major problems, it's done 110k now with just the usual bushes and a few other minor bits. Was a bit of a Pain in the arris a few months ago when we couldn't track down an issue, but once we had it was sorted cheaply.

Never had a problem with parts. Local motor factor can get almost anything we ask for at no more cost than our old vauxhall, and as the diesel engine is mercedes you can also get parts from them.

I'd have another tomorrow. Great family car and a bit different from anything else on the road.

As i already mentioned above the only one i would have would be the much newer CRD models, as the engine is not a GM engine you can get parts.

Chrysler were sold last summer by Mercedes-Benz to Fiat.

Double check the exact model as some 2.4 versions now cost £445 a year for a tax disc !

This only applies for cars registered since 23 March 2006.

That said, £2k seems like poor value, they use as much fuel as a big executive saloon, and you could get something like this:

which will be more fuel-efficient, for less money.

Money would be better spent on a ford focus.

It's too old to attract that kind of tax.
