As title says I'm thinking of getting an 02 plate one with 86,000 miles on the clock.
Anyone had any experience of them good and bad please.
Oh it's the Limited version I'm looking at.

They cost a fortune to service, parts cost a fortune.
They have had a tendancy, at least in London, of attracting the, erm, kind of owner that thinks putting on a used tyre to get through the MOT is the same as an annual service.
I liked the look of them when they came out but they were rubbish on fuel, we are talking mid twenties around a urban environment.
The later CRD ones had a Merc engine and where economical so i would go for one of those if i was ever to buy one.
They never sold in large numbers so almost all spares are main dealer only.
I would pass, at almost 10 yrs old it will be due a cambelt and god knows what else would need doing.
Up to you at the end of the day, but not to be recommended unless the one you are buying has solid main dealer service history and has had all the expensive things changed.0 -
Ugly, expensive rubbish only worth considering if it is seriously cheap, which I think many are not.0

As Chrysler have almost pulled out of Europe, spares could be a problem.
PT Cruiser was quite distinctive in its day, but now looks a bit of a joke. Haven't seen one for some time. Unless it's dirt cheap, look for something else.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
Many thanks for the replies.
It's going for £1995 ovno, owner says it has all stamps, so hopefully cam belt will have been done. Have seen car on side of road but that's about it. I'm going up in a bit to see owner and have closer look.Helping the country to sleep better....ZZZzzzzzzz0 -
I've never had problems with chrysler parts to date and never been near a chrysler dealer for anything.
Expensive? Depends on the car really. My local indy doesnt buy the spare parts, I need to supply them myself.
I liked the PT cruiser when it first came out, not so sure now.0 -
Parts are widley available, they did loads of LTD ED very rare ones have a fake tyre cover on the boot lid chrome kick bars on the sills and 16inch multispoke alloys, leather seats with colour coded stitching.
check it over carefully the 2.0l 16v sohc was lumpy and sounded like a deisel hydrolic tapping is really common and not a problem, before someone mentions head gasket failure they were fixed in 1998!! so anything after is not affected by it as it has a multilayered steel one and the wrong gappage taking up.
make sure the fobs and keys are present, and work oh you have to put the clutch in before you start it or it wont start SENTRY immobilisers on them and are a thatcham CAT 2 graded good for insurance.0 -
Many thanks again for the replies.
God I hate buying cars!! This will be only my 3rd in 16 years driving. Last car was a gift from my boss, ended up costing me a fortune in passing the MOT for the last 3 years running. Hence I feel the need for change.
It's an automatic, has fully service history and is very very tidy.
He wants £1850, said I'll let him know tomorrow.Helping the country to sleep better....ZZZzzzzzzz0 -

Chrysler were sold last summer by Mercedes-Benz to Fiat.
Double check the exact model as some 2.4 versions now cost £445 a year for a tax disc !
