A reliable Washing Machine

My washer-dryer (£1,000) came with a free 5 year warrantee; I don't think they expect that to break. There's a website somewhere by an ex-washing machine engineer who like them all doesn't like washer-dryers due to reliability issues, but even he told me that if it's a Miele it should be OK.

I'm still thinking of going for a Bosch Washing Machine but I'm struggling to decide whether to go for a classix or the slightly higher spec Exxcel.
Differences seem to be that the excel has
delay time, time remaining, LED display, quick wash and silk programmes.
Anyone out their with an EXXCEL who could tell me what the 3 buttons to the right of the LED display are for?
Anyone using a CLASSIXX?
I've found a free del code and 5% off code for currys + cashback through one or other of the sites but currys don't seem to do the EXXCEL range only the CLASSIXX or top range LOGIXX. I'd settled on the EXXCEL but you can see why I'm now waivering.7 Angel Bears for LovingHands Autumn Challenge. 10 KYSTGYSES. 3 and 3/4 (ran out of wool) small blanket/large square, 2 premie blankets, 2 Angel Claire Bodywarmers0 -

Things just got a whole lot more complicated. The last wash didn't just leak a bit - I've just mopped up 5litres of water, - its flipped the circuit breaker
I've also discovered that Curry's can't get the BOSCH, locally or on-line, for 28 days. - I can't wait that long. so I thought I'd seek the advice of my friendly washing machine repair man. He said, Hotpoint or Hoover. Bosch may be more reliable but if they go wrong, it costs him an arm and a leg for parts and he has to order them. He carries hotpoint spares and says the difference for repairs is £30 : £70 for basic stuff. He doesn't think they are that bad.
Apparently, hotpoint have a 5 yr guarantee on parts although I haven't managed to confirm this anywhere.
oh, and tricity bendix are throw away machines. They usually can't be fixed.7 Angel Bears for LovingHands Autumn Challenge. 10 KYSTGYSES. 3 and 3/4 (ran out of wool) small blanket/large square, 2 premie blankets, 2 Angel Claire Bodywarmers0 -
Definitely Bosch. I've had various other makes but Bosch - I have a washing machine and tumble dryer - are faultless, give brilliant results and OH says the engineering is first class. A bit pricier than some but will repay you with long reliable service. I would never buy anything else now!KNIT YOUR SQUARE TOTALS:

The dilema is whether to take a chance on the hotpoint which, if it goes wrong, can be fixed easily and cheaply by a friendly repair man or to go for the bosch and hope that it is as reliable as it is supposed to be but will cost a fortune if it does go wrong - oh, and can't be got for 14 -28 days depending on the model (not ideal with 2 children and no washing machine - I really do admire my grandparents generation!)7 Angel Bears for LovingHands Autumn Challenge. 10 KYSTGYSES. 3 and 3/4 (ran out of wool) small blanket/large square, 2 premie blankets, 2 Angel Claire Bodywarmers0 -

- it has only been over five years and "coincidently" ( ) our warranty ran out (typical eh?).

I hope we don't live to regret this but after lots of discussion with OH and pouring over specifications and prices, we have decided to go with the hotpoint.
There were several reasons that swayed us in spite of the companys poor record.
1: Repair man said that, in his experience, they aren't THAT bad compared to other brands
2: The model we chose has a far better spec than the Bosch we'd selected and was £100 cheaper (and £200 cheaper than a Bosch of similar spec.)
3: Even the Bosch is likely to need repairing at some point as they don't make machines like they used to. I don't think any modern models are going to last 16 years.
4: Hotpoint have a 5 year parts guarantee (I think that bosch is only 1 or 2) so if something major goes wrong it can be fixed by HP but silly little niggles can be fixed cheaply independantly.
5: I can get the HP delivered, hopefully, Tuesday but the bosch is 28 days.
6; My mum has a similar HP model that's 2 years old and is pleased with its performance
7: Tricity Bendix was described as a throw-away machine and was a bit more expensive than the HP we've chosen and HP machine should be repairable.
Now, would anyone out there be willing to let me do a couple of washes over the weekend to keep me going until next week!:D :rotfl:7 Angel Bears for LovingHands Autumn Challenge. 10 KYSTGYSES. 3 and 3/4 (ran out of wool) small blanket/large square, 2 premie blankets, 2 Angel Claire Bodywarmers0 -
Hello,
just trying to find out whether the Bosch I'm having delivered tomorrow is likely to come with a molded plug that I can't easily get off and back on while the delivery men are here (I need to feed the flex through holes in kitchen units to plug it in).
It may be a long shot, but I thought I'd ask. Molded plugs are a real bugbear of mine, and I don't know how widely they're used on appliances...I'm hoping for a plug I can quickly take off and put back on.
thanks if anyone can give me a clue on this (I know I'll know for sure tomorrow!)0 -
My 8 Year old Indesit has just conked out! We went for a cheap washing machine after a much more expensive Philco machine kept having problems and eventually blew up and the repair man said it would cost more to repair than it was worth.
I have been very pleased with the Indesit, and may well go for another! (After a quick look to see what they have in Costco tomorrow!)
