  • Hi
Have to agree with the others, Bosch for me, but make sure its made in Germany, lots of Bosch that are sold in this country are usually made in Spain, I believe, cheaper parts.

    How do you know?

I've looked and Which say Bosch, Meile, siemens or tricity bendix.
Aparently Bosch and Siemens are one and the same. Siemens tend to be more expensive but have 5 yr guarantee.

If you want more Which info, let me know and I'll give a bit more info when I am not completely and utterly bamboozled re: washing machines!

I think I'm going to go for a Bosch Exxcel 1200 WAE24465 unless anyone else knows better.

Im no washing machine expert I never touch the thing but my mum has a Hotpoint its god knows how old and does 2-3 washes a day. It goes through a set of brushes every 9ish months it seems but apart from that that is the only problem with it.

Changeing the brushes is easy, if all that is not happening with yours is the drum not moving then it sounds like the brushes. Remove the lid and the motor is usually it the top remove the 2 wires connected to the 2 brushes and replace them and reconnect the wires I think the brushes cost about £6 a pair.

Latest Bosch machines seem cheap and nasty to me, our old one packed up after about 5 years, several visits later the techie still couldn't fix it.

Bought an LG Direct drive 1400 spin, its far better made, much cleverer in regards to maintenance, quieter (the Bosch was a 1000 spin) and came with a 5 year garantee. This was 2 or 3 years ago and they seem even more popular now, Samsung looked good at the time too.

I'd bet that most engineers will tell you Miele are the best. They also make industrial machines (e.g. for glassware in labs). But you have to pay for it. My washer-dryer (£1,000) came with a free 5 year warrantee; I don't think they expect that to break. There's a website somewhere by an ex-washing machine engineer who like them all doesn't like washer-dryers due to reliability issues, but even he told me that if it's a Miele it should be OK.

Mine will probably break down now...

Hi my first washer was a hotpoint lasted 15 years and have had my hotpoint washer/dryer for really 2 years, although I have only used the dryer a couple of times, I have insurance with domestic and general very cheap it was £75 paided monthly over 10 months for an extra 4 years cover, so if it does breakdown I'm covered, and its new for old, if they cant mend it I get a brand new one, touch wood it has'nt gone wrong yet, I would strongly reccommend hotpoint, aquarius WD420 1200 spin.
    I got mine at

I've had a hotpoint machine for 15 years. I've had it mended several times as the old machines are far more reliable that the new ones but it has finally got to the unmendable point.

I've heard so many bad things about the new hotpoints that I will be avoiding them.

By the way, which say Don't Buy Hotpoint Aqualtis AQXXL129 or Indesit WIA121.

We have an LG Direct Drive. It's almost 5 years old and never failed (touch wood). If it fails now, we'd buy another.

    :)

    GG

Same here and came with a free 5 year guarantee. Well impressed with it but it's not as quiet as it used to be, but it does get used twice daily on average.
    Cheers
