A reliable Washing Machine

Our Hotpoint Washing Machine has just broken down
- it has only been over five years and "coincidently" ( ) our warranty ran out (typical eh?).
Do you guys have any recommendations for a reliable washing machine? and a reliable brand?
Dare I say it, they don't seem to make it like they used to
(I remember our washing machine when I was a kid that ran for 10+ years!)

We have an LG Direct Drive. It's almost 5 years old and never failed (touch wood). If it fails now, we'd buy another.

We bought a Bosch washing machine a while ago and it just keeps on going. This is my first post so hope this doesn't seem like I am trying the hard sell but if you live near by Lincoln. We have a Bosch washing machine of my Dad's in our garage - literally a year old.
My Dad died in October, not been motivated to try and sell it. If your near, pm me. Mark0 -
I agree - Bosch for sensible prices - Miele (currently with a free 10 year P&L) guarantee if you need something really reliable and can afford it.0

'Nother vote for Bosch here. Consistently (along with Miele, but much cheaper) voted top in consumer reviews for reliability.0

Apologies for my ignorance, but what is P&L btw? If that is warranty by any chance, may I ask whether this is still available for the Miele?0 -
rented first LG machine cos sick of washing machine breakdowns. Excellent. Have bought one now and got 5yrs parts & labour. Family of 5 with 3 teenagers-been going strong for 2 years - never had any trouble touch wood!
Large load capacity and 'A' rated.0 -
ouch...just checked the prices for Miele(!)
I'm sure they must be amazing.....but I think we'll go for the Bosch's instead. Any recommendations on models?
many thx0 -
Bosch and Miele washing machines are normally recommended by Which? magazine for their reliability. They do tend to be more expensive than other makes but you do get what you pay for. I've had a Bosch for over 5 years and it's been very reliable so far.0

be aware bosch are not what they used to be, we used to buy direct from bosch but we closed our account and no longer recommend them. they no longer make any of their own laundry products, one of the tumble dryers is a white knight with a different badge on. Miele are fab esp with a 10 yr parts and labour but you will need a big pile of cash. Best bangs for buck in my opinion is the LGdirect drive, 5yr parts and labour. 7.5/8kg loads A+AA rated and very quiet due to the direct drive. Sold quite a few, no come backs and have one at home0
