Now realise I ve found my guilty pleasure.... stocking up my cupboards. I should be able to last months- altho no fresh fruit would not be good and I would have to tread carefully with butter. Altho I do of course have some put by in the freezer. Don t do milk so thats not a worry and can manage without eggs as It would probably be allowed for me to recieve free a couple of eggs now and again from the farm. I don t eat red meat but have chicjen and salmon in the freezer. Bread would be a problem but if I go and buy some yeast I could make my own... would this be allowed.
May be taking redundancy so this thread may come in very handy as a cost saving measure and it had nt crossed my mind.
Must get the lettuce started , the potatoes are in... and someone just donated me 3 tomato plants. Could really do with the courgettes though as they can provide for ages.0 -
WishI'dReadSooner - where abouts could I find the "chicken & beef" quorn pieces? Will they be in the chilled sections or are they frozen? I don't like piles of stuff around, so I keep things pared down, but even so could probably go for two weeks just on rice and dried stuff alone."Never underestimate the mindless force of a government bureaucracyseeking to expand its power, dominion and budget"Jay Stanley, American Civil Liberties Union.0

Could probably last about a month, month and a half at a stretch. Considering I'm in student digs and my freezer space is just about big enough for a bag of frozen peas, another of sweetcorn and not much else, I'd say isn't doing too badly. On the other hand - I'd be living off Lentil soup by the end of it and have severe cravings for bananas and green apples.
The sausages are amazing in sausage stew if you marinate them first, they suck up flavours as well as tofu does I've found (after accidentally buying PeriPeri marinade instead of Peri Peri Sauce and having to use it somehow!) - though I can safely agree with you that the 'bacon' is grim and i'm not a fan of the pre-flavoured sausages either.WishI'dReadSooner wrote: »the bacon is yuck, can't say I've found the sausages to my taste either - but must try some of their other recipes for sausages.0 -

Interesting post as i'm actually doing this RIGHT NOW! :T
So far we are on week 3 (family of 5), but as the kids are off school this week i'm probably gonna have to go shopping soon. I've pretty skint at the minute so holding off for as long as i can. In my freezer i'm down to 4 pork chops, 1 fish cake, half a bag of stuffing balls and 3 rocket ice lollies. Really bad isn't it?? :rotfl:
But still have a few tins left, and a defrosting chicken in the fridge. I'm out of the cheap and cheerful pasta but i'll be baking again tomorrow.
Its amazing what great meals you can come up with when you HAVE to. I'm not just trying to use all my food up, i really don't have any money spare to go shopping. Got paid on Friday and its GONE! Hubby lost his job a while back and i only earn £400 a month to times are tough, but i can honestly say the laughter we have had over my "concoctions" in the kitchen and actually sitting down together for a meal has brought us closer as a family :T
I've had to buy fresh milk, bread and marg but i can honestly say thats all. I will have to buy some pop tomorrow (tesco value juice and some diet coke as a treat).
It just goes to show you can make do when you have to.

I would imagine at least 3 weeks if not a month or more. Frozen vegetables, frozen fruit, loads of flours, ingredients to make bread, loads of rice, couscous, soya beans (to make soya milk), soya mince, pulses, lentils, tinned goods, dried fruit, nuts, seeds etc.
My partner has meats, cheese, rolls, bread etc in the freezer, loads of tinned goods etc. to go with the pastas, rice, etc. He would live on pasta, meat (any he has in the freezer), cheese and bread if it came to it! I've seen him do so when we were tight on money.
Enough tea and coffee to last at least 3 months if not longer.
The chinchillas have enough food to last until the end of July at least and have enough hay to last the month.
You wouldn't think we live in a 1 bed place would you, lol :rotfl:. We have some rather strange storage solutions but they work for us.
My parents have a full fridge, full freezers (2), full cupboards and a rather full pantry/larder most of the time and could last many months without shopping!I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy

Easily 2-3 weeks but it would get very tedious once the fresh stuff had gone!Armchair shopper and cook - albeit with a ready meal on my lap and "plates of meat" in a foot spa!!!!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0

im a terrible hoarder and could probably last a good 2-3 months if my partner wasnt so fussy (have an awful lot of tuna which me and ds eat but oh cant stand fish) always buy 5-10 of anything we use with 1year+ bbe date when its on a good sale and recently changed to long life organic soya milk so except for the dissapearance of fresh fruit and veg in his lunch box doubt either of them would notice if i stopped shopping :P0

i could probably have lasted a few months till someone left the freezer door open over our weekend away. ive stocked up a bit and could probably last a few weeks now. im going to do a big shop when my insurance pays up, but i am going to sort my cupboards out first, my pantry must have some stuff in ive had for months - as i keep shoving stuff in when i tidy the house. i would miss out on my fresh stuff tho.0
