Hmm fresh about a week, freezer - maybe 3 months of meat..., store cupboard -months - though we'd end up with some odd combos of stuff...
I am sucha bargain hoard I'm almost ashamed!People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

Must admit I've never tried Quorn ,nor seen many recipes on here for it I must investigate with the price of meat rising faster than the tide on the river:)0

I've only recently started using Quorn. I find the "chicken style" ones the most useful. They are so versatile - curries, sweet & sour, soups, pies, sweet chilli chicken.
I'm also pretty good at S-T-R-E-T-C-H-I-N-G a chicken. Usually manage to get at least 4 meals for OH and I from a fairly small chicken.

I could probably last around a month if not more as being brought up with rationing I have always had a good store cupboard.my children used to say that I had cornered the market in sardines and pilchards when they were young,:) but many a time when things have been tough those tinned stuffs were a godsend.I still keep a good stock of tinned bits which my DDs have raided at times of need
This made me smile - My Auntie Dot would get in a right panic if she discovered that she didn't have sardines in the cupboard - I met her once battling through strong wind and rain to get to the shops (she was then in her 80's) and when I asked her what she was going for she said "Oh nothing urgent but I couldn't settle because I haven't got a tin of sardines in the cupboard"!!! She also always had a good stock of stuffed pork roll (anyone remember this?). corned beef, pilchards and pink salmon.
I also think that portions are so huge nowadays - when I was growing up in the 60's a typical tea for 5 of us would be two hard boiled eggs and a tin of sardines between all of us, with lettuce, tomato, cucumber and a slice of bread and butter each, and then a tin of fruit and small tin of sterilised cream between us for afters. We weren't fat but nor do I ever remember being starving nor were we skinny. My kids would freak if I offered them that for their tea!Jane

i could go about 2 days without shopping for food. I live on my own, have a large freezer full of meat, veg, milk, bread, grated cheese,ice-creams, pies, fish, prepared meals I made. A stock cupboard full and a cans cupboard full to overflowing.
I am a food hoarder, comes from having to live very frugally at one time in my life and vowed I would let that happen again, ie I open a packet of pasta,I have to replace it with a full one etc etc. I also cannot pass on a bargain don't matter whether I need it or not if it won't go 'off' I buy it.
Sad ain't it- No it ain't it makes me happy Ha Ha !You live..You learn.:)0 -
could you survive on vegetable oil. cos if you rationed that out a bit, it would probably last ages0
-
I reckon I could last at least 3 weeks. I'd only be feeding me, so it doesn't matter if I had to do weird concoctions (I sometimes do anyways
). I'm a food hoarder as well, although I'm slowly teaching myself to actually use what's in the cupboards, instead of just looking at it
Call me what you like, I was a bit "tiddly" when I chose my username

I've got loads of food in the house. Could last about a month, and got enough alcohol for about 6-7 months! lol About 30 bottles of wine...
Got loads of chopped tomatoes in the house. The freezer is emptier than it usually is, because we were making room for ice for my BBQ. I also have loads of creme eggs that were bought cheaply after Easter. I have some frozen veg, so at least there's some nutrition there!0 -

DON'T buy the 'ready meals' - they tend to be tasteless cr.p! The only good one we found was the frozen chilli - when you just had to add tomatoes, we added red beans too. That was super BUT they don't seem to sell it any more.
The chicken style pieces can be used just as you use chicken pieces in any sauces - BUT it's a LOT more filling than chicken so use less, it seems to expand as you cook it. It's just SO versatile & I'll bet you can't tell the difference.
The beef style with a good beef stock (That Bisto paste from Approved food is superb!) or without, can be used in lasagne, cottage pie, bolognaise etc. etc. Again just use as minced beef but cut down on the quantity as it swells and is also so filling. We MUCH prefer this to minced beef as there is no gristle, very little fat and IMHO tastes better.
As a meat eater who never thought a meal was complete without meat, I just can't believe that that often we go a week or more without meat with our main meal.
I agree Merrywidow - the bacon is yuck, can't say I've found the sausages to my taste either - but must try some of their other recipes for sausages.
We only found Quorn by mistake. I picked up some 'chicken style' escalopes and we enjoyed the taste of them so much we decided to look for them again. I fished the wrapper out of the bin & we were both gobsmacked to find out it wasn't chicken. :rotfl::rotfl:
I'd not give freezer room now to beefburgers as Quornburgers are good and I'm addicted, as is hubby to their Southern fried chicken burgers - YUMMY! Filling too.0
