hahahahahahahaha, Sussex by the Sea again!:rotfl::rotfl:

Join the Brighton area anti-PPC brigade on other threads HMG7, look for the Brighton Meteor parking thread for a start where someone is going to mention the issue to the Argus. Myself and SodG24 (another poster) are on your side and are not a million miles away as we cheerfully admit to being complete strangers but also Sussex-based Brighton fans (yes Perky and Haswell, I have said this before so don't go spouting it later that you have 'found out' that I am from Sussex...!).

Seroiusly, I would complain to Dunelm Mill Head Office as this is not on. Not only is their restriction illegal and needs changing so it is waived or reasonably extended for disabled visitors, but you've also said they don't have enough disabled bays which is another Equality Act failure! You could get compensation for their treatment of you - but at the very least you should demand an apology and climbdown from Dunelm Mill. Take the BBC printout link I gave you before, with you if you call into the store. But TBH I would be writing AGAIN to the Head Office not dealing with a local Manager who may not have a clue about the illegalities that they are guilty of here.

Whatever happens ignore the PPC of course.
Hi Coupon-Mad.. I will definitely look out for the groups/threads you mention and put my two pence worth in for them. Thank you for your invaluable advice and support.. I am so glad I came on here to see if there was anything about what to do with these car parking thieves! I just had not realised for one moment though, that it was as virulent a problem as it is.. I was staggered by the amount of threads being left daily! You do feel a bit alone when you receive one of these notices don't you? What is interesting too though is that they need a shake up at their offices.. someone there is clearly not booking people as I have been there on at least 4 other occasions with friends in their cars, my car and clearly overstayed but not ever received as much as a warning! Maybe that employee has a conscience.. trouble is he/she won't have a job much longer once they cotton on to that! Today I feel quite vigilant.. I feel I could drive over there and smile at the camera and put two fingers up to them .. the reality of course is that I won't actually do that.. but I can think it can't I? ;-) Thanks again.. very much appreciated! :-)

To get your own back on the store, you could always use the "full trolley" ploy. What you do is fill a large trolley full of high-value goods, take it to the check-out, and then announce at the top of your voice "I will have to abandon this stuff here as my parking time-limit is almost up". Then just walk out of the store, never to be seen again.
Thanks Trisontana.. I may well do that one day.. just for the sheer hell of it and to make a point.. I could then in a loud voice tell the other customers that I hope they have not been in there more than 90 mins as they will be fined £150!! See the egg on the faces of the store then shall we? Shame I like the store as would not shop there again on principle ......however.. life is too short to walk around feeling angry and bitter at the world for its foibles... gotta keep smiling haven't we and don't let the b's get us down!! That is what I keep telling myself every time something that should have been so simple goes wrong! Seems I am saying it far too often these days though.. hey ho!

    A joyous notion.

Perhaps take some friends with who are also shopping to the same time limit.

I would hazard that it would best be done just as or before you reach the check-out queue, that is without putting any items on the conveyor belt.

:p to TPS!!! Hello out there everyone who has been affected or is affected by outlandish car parking charges from shops where we have been spending money!!!!

I have slept on this all week and realised the date is the 23rd.....what is so special about that date, you may ask? Well today is the day I am SUPPOSED to bend to TPS and send them £100 for a parking charge at their Dunelm Store in Shoreham........well guess what TPS? You can take a running jump for it cos' it ain't comin' your way! Yes .....yawn.....you can send me another nasty letter or even report me to your debt recovery peeps but I am still not coughin' up. Oh and tomorrow the figure changes to £150 as a penalty for not paying up.. re their admin costs ......its laughable now isn't it? 10 days ago though, when my 1st letter (their 2nd they claim) dropped on my doormat, I felt very vulnerable and scared and angry too about the whole thing but on reading the posts here and subsequent trillions of posts on the subject, that I realise that I need to be strong and vigilant against these morons who clearly have nothing better to do with their time.. I realise that people need jobs and bringing home the bacon is important for us all but how do they sleep at night in all honesty? Well remember what goes around comes around....

I know the letters from now on in will get nastier and more threatening but I will just remember to come in here every day and soak up the good advice and support from everyone!! I want to be one of those people who can come on here and say IGNORE THEM.. DON'T PAY.. and I know when I have beaten them into submission through my ignoring of their scare mongering, bully boy tactics, I will be ONE of those people!! I am getting there.. I have taken HUGE steps forward in the last few days in terms of how I feel justified now NOT to PAY!! Hang in there with me though please should I get a bit wobbly about it all!! I still have a huge amount on my plate here on a daily basis in my normal life and things like this can get on top of me a bit.. let's face it no one needs harrassment in their lives! I believe in treating people as I would wish to be treated and that is the bit that made me flounder about paying up.. but let's get real here........these are not real people .. these are not people who care about others....why then should I care what they are thinking now.. whilst they are hounding me, they are leaving some other poor punter alone!

So to all of you just receiving notices today...stand strong and have your say here and be counted!!! DO NOT PAY!!! If we all stick to our guns on this and be a united front against the powers that be of these car parks.. then somewhere.. somehow....they will get the proverbial kick up the backside that they so richly deserve!

I lived in the States for 7 years .. grew up out there in fact and as far as I know even now.. they don't operate such systems in their car parks outside shops.. the car parks are there to encourage you to enter the shops and spend spend spend.. not be clock watching all the while you are in there!! I have spoken to friends in Illinois about this and they operate no such system.. sure the airport at O'Hare is a nightmare but then so is Gatwick and Heathrow...but then that is different.

So on with Manic Monday but I really want to say a big thank you to all that have helped me compartmentalise this and remove the angst about it! Bless you all! x :T

To add on to what I have been harping on about here.. I just checked the Direct Gov section for PPC's and how the DVLA give them the info about us... here is the link for anyone who has not read it. It clearly states that one of the reasons that they give this info is because there is reason to believe that the keeper of the car has not paid their fee. Uh? What fee? These car parks are not charging entry.. they are free car parks.. there is no sticker or card to retrieve from a machine on entry or when you park the car. (although the latter would be the fairest way to establish if we are overstaying. Therefore, do we have a complaint we could raise with DVLA for giving out our private addresses? Anyone done this?

On the question of the DVLA and PPCs, take a look at this Sunday Times letter from yesterday. Just click on the image to see a full-page version.
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?

Hi ya.. I clicked on the link.. opened up a page for pipperoo or something .. anyway had already tried to register with them the other day but could not set up...it would not let me.. then today tried again using different user name and email and it accepted it and even sent me a welcome email and now won't let me sign in. I have tried searching Times archives but can't bring up that particular article.. can you please tell me what the title is? Many thanks!

    :jHi everyone!!! :j

Wel the good news is that I have received an email from Dunelm Mill advising me that their properties department contacted TPS and they have cancelled my PCN. I did spout a lot of stuff.. to be honest, they were probably beginning to think I was more trouble than I was worth charging £150 to. There is peace in the valley once more! However, I do expect that I will still get something sent through the post in next couple of days from TPS as their computer will have already generated a letter as I did not cough up on the 23rd as they had demanded! I may just return to sender!

So the moral of the story here folks is.....DON'T PAY!!! Do however, write to the shop in question.. and tell them like it is! Appeal to their sense of justice on it and hope that they realise that eventually, people will stop shopping there or as they are shopping for reduced times, their sales will fall. I was very fortunate to have a very pleasant young lady helping me on this and I have just phoned to thank her personally. She said they don't often get thanked for things.. isn't that sad?

Interestingly, she said that if I think I am going to be in there for longer than 90 mins, to let them know at Customer Services as they can let TPS know in advance! Hmmm me thinks!! Not entirely sure that I will trust TPS to honour that! I think in future, I will have to go in with a shopping list and blinkers on and stay focused.

So thank you one and all for your input and your good sound advice to help me sort this out, I am truly grateful! x :T :T :T
