What does everyone do on a Fri night?

Options
Hi all,

My boyfriend and I are struggling with what to do on the weekends! We moved to London a few months ago, well Kingston Upon Thames, so not central London. Neither of us knew anyone else here, so we only really know people at work.

We sometimes go for a nice meal or the cinema on the weekend, but feel like we want to do some more fun/unusual quirky things to do!

Just wondered what everyone else got up to?

I'm off to the Casino tonight!

Normally I either go - to cinema, bowling, for a meal, to the pub, round a friends house.

    Hi

I'm in West Molesey so only about 3 miles from Kingston, now at the age & stage where we stay in with Spud & watch reality TV:rolleyes: but pre-Spud we would go to the cinema (The Walton on Thames one is smaller, much more freindly & cheaper than the big Kingston & Esher ones), eat out, go into central London for supper (only a treat if you don't work there I guess!) go on guided walks in London (there is a fab ghost one in Whitechaple), go to amature plays/shows (try the Cobham Players/Hersham amature operatic society/the Barn at Walton/Thames Ditton Players & Claygate have a group but their name escapes me?), go to music recitials at churches/church halls (St Martins on Tralfagar Sq has some fab ones normally once a fortnight plus the crypt there is pretty interesting), Vera (?Tetley? Well, Vera Something) Hall by Thames Ditton Railway Station has various ones check their notice board), there used to be a comedy club attached to the Mitre Hotel at Hampton Court but I think this might have turned into a bar now so best check?, there is a Comedy club in Woking but this might be a bit too far, depends on how far you want to travel? There is a fab Italian resteruant in Walton High Street called Zio's & a equally fab medeterrian one called La Escondida (both v. near the cinema), Fired Eath in Esher & Chu Chin Chows at Hampton Court are THE places to go locally or fab Chinese food. River boat trips (the one from Hampton Court to central London takes about 4 hours though!), fab walks in Bushy park & fab for Owls & Bats in the summer, Hampton Court gardens & Maze are fairly inexpensive (park in the station & walk over the bridge it's much cheaper!), Sion House & grounds are nearby in Richmond, Kew Gardens are about 25 minutes away, Chessington Wold of Adventures have theme wekends/ nights (they have a Christmas special with the zoo part at the mo entry is £7.50 for adults), Sandown race course in Esher has various exhibitions & shows including craft fares, Kempton race course has a book fare one sunday every 2 months ish, there are 3 pottery studios to decorate your own pottery : Kingston market place near the police station, Richmond but I can't tell you the address or Esher next to the railway station & the Weir pub behind Elmbridge Leisure centre nr Walton on Thames is a must in the summer. Hampton Court has an ice rink outside through December & they usually have a Christmas fare too at some stage in December. Esher race couse has a dry ski slope attached to it.

Or you could come & see me!:D

    HTH;)

Great post from Lillibet about things to do in and near Kingston (upon Thames). I visit friends in Richmond & Twickenham regularly and would recommend the Bearcat Club at the Turks Head pub in Twickenham for stand-up comedy. I saw Graham Norton there when he was on his way up and jolly good he was too. You can also do a bit of minor celeb-spotting in the pub itself. Also recommend the White Cross pub in Richmond as the new landlord has been trying new stuff like free music. Heartless people also like to drink there because of the chance of seeing a visitor's car floated off by the Thames tides.;) The classical outdoor concerts at Marble Hill House in Twickenham are fab; IMO the greatest sight is to see all the posh people who've brought the garden dining set, candelabras winecoolers and a picnic and found a place just OUTSIDE the enclosure so they can listen for free. Also recommend the annual fair every July at the Moor Meads ground in Twickenham - beer, wine and Pimms flows freely and there are loads of stalls with bargains. None better, so our customers tell us, than the one my pals and I run in aid of the Princess Alice Hospice in Esher.:)

Wow lillibet and sarahpuggy - your posts really brought back memories for me. I grew up in your area - I actually lived near Hampton Court for 23 years! There's so much to do round your way.....If you go into Bushy Park they've got a huge totem pole in one of the gardens and if you take bread and get there really early on very cold mornings the birds will come and fly onto your hands.....
Not brilliant for Friday nights I know, but if you've got kids and a car how bout a car picnic and drive round spotting all the lit-up Christmas decorations?

PS: I live in south Wales now and wouldn't want to move back over the bridge! I've swopped a view of concrete for one of a mountain right outside my front living-room window......
