Yet you have time to sit around using the internet?

It takes me 10 mins in the morning to check my mail, stocks and the message boards. The rest of the day is pretty much non-stop, with perhaps the odd 10-15 mins again that I will have a bite to eat and nip back on the net and check how things are doing. I sure don't have hours a day to sit around and watch TV and play video games, lol, I wish!

hell, dont know what course your doing but my 3 years at uni have been one long holiday. wish the real world was this easy.
What's it going to be, eh?
  • I wouldn't bother getting Sky, why pay £50, have the hassle of having the dish installed and your landlord getting possibly annoyed, when you can buy a freeview box between you and get all the channels you need! They are less than £20 now and are a great investment.

I don't recommend getting a bundle with NTL/Telewest, just go for their broadband which is very reasonable as you don't need a phone line (which can add more for line rental, etc) and if you are living in a shared house, a phone is just gonna be used for 'emergencys' (when you run out of credit) and big rows will erupt over the bill. Best to stick to your mobile phone!

I am a student. We have freeview (and a friend with American I-Tunes, so we watch Lost at His house). So no need for sky really, we only watch about 3-4 hours a week of telly anyway, we're at school til 9pm most days any way.

Sky does seem a bit of a luxury when we can't afford to put the heating on! But then again everyone is different!

University is about a work life balance. I'm now a HR advisor and our company very much sees university developing people with life skills. I also agree that the life and social skills you gain at university are more important than the degree subject your studying.
As long as you meet the assignment deadlines and get OK'ish marks, your doing well.

Why not try and join a society or club? If not, knock on your neighbours doors and join in with there nights out.

What does any of that post have to do with having time to watch skyTV?

I am already president of a society, member of another, and sit on the union council, I have meetings and commitments a good 4-5 nights a week, the other couple are generally spent out socialising with colleagues and acquaintances, depending on my work-load for the week. I tend to fit in my shopping and other chores during the day around my lectures and seminars and do additional study inbetween classes in the library and when I get home from uni. I get little time to relax when at uni due to my packed schedule, hence certainly no time to watch TV or play video games. However the majority of my flatmates enjoy a bit of pro evo, but they have no where near the workload that I have.

Going back to the original point of this post, it does seem like a good deal if you can afford it :) personally, i just have the four channels at the moment, as I'd rather be on the internet than watching the tv :) Next year I think I might splash out and get a Freeview box, I'll have to wait and see :)

Nothing. But it has plenty to do with the discussion that followed; you must have been too busy to notice.

I have to say that every student I know, which is a very sizable quantity, watch plenty of tv and I cant think of any of them who do not have some form of digital tv receiver, be it freeview (most common), cable or sky.

Another thing, everyone I know who sits on the council at Uni is an extremely boring, unsociable person. Im not trying to stereo type and perhaps this is more the culture of my uni, but to me, it appears you are not too different.

Clearly you are planning for the long term, good luck.

In my 3.5 years of uni, ive worked 20+ hours a week (between my 2 jobs), had a placement every summer, never been a member of any society, done everything ive wanted (ie go out about 4 times a week, travel away to see football etc), get decent grades at uni, watch neighbours and hollyoaks religiously like all students should ;-), drink, eat and exercise plenty, surf the net daily, sleep about 6-7 hours a night, check my shares and email several times daily (both on my mobile - may save you putting pc on! -save that wee bit of elect. bill), play poker, play footy 3 times a week, swim, go to the gym etc etc and pay for it ALL myself.

    Enjoy your next society meeting.
