Sky Digital for Students

Hey
Has anyone heard of the Sky Digital deal for students? It runs till 15th December 2006 and costs £50 to install then you can decide whether or not to subscribe, i.e. no monthly/minimum contract.
Admittedly the box is refurbished and you pay a £2 supplement on the basic package (if you do subscribe), but it still seems pretty good and installation is included.
What I'm unsure of is whether my university student number is needed - I don't have one of those silly NUS extra cards (now costing £10!) and I doubt there is time to get one before the 15th December.
Also I was wondering if cashback sites offer points/cashback for this offer as opposed to the normal sky digital deal which does come with cashback.

Can anyone tell me if the channels through this student offer are the same number of free channels offered through Freesat?

Nice find. But do students really have £17 per month and upwards to be wasting on cable television? Let alone have the time to make it a remotely worthwhile investment. Certainly not the vast majority.0

Obviously you don't know students in this day and age then!
I graduated from University 2 years ago, every student house around my area had cable (NTL). People's billed varied from £30 - £50 a month including various channels, a telephone line and broadband.
Student life has certainly changed from having beans on toast. It's now having a takeaway kebab from down the road watching sky sports while surfing the web on their laptop!
So in short, Yes, the vast majority of students will be taking either this or a cable deal!!Mortgage as Sept 2012: £96,000
Mortgage free: When i'm 39 / Sept 2023
Mortgage repayment = £588
Tracker Rate 1.99% above base: 2.49%0 -
And the benefit is that you don't have to subscribe all the time - just call them to "switch it off" and you get the freeview channels + more.
I can't actually sign up online at the moment - the sign up page isn't secure :wall:spacey

Unfortunately I do, being a student myself. However it is highly questionable whether or not half of them should be students in the first place, certainly if they have time to bum round watching cable TV then I'd argue against it. I mean, that is just surreal to me. My life is non-stop work, the occassional night out if I'm lucky. Its now half 4 in the morning and i've just had my evening meal, I'll get 2-3 hrs sleep tonight tops (don't get me wrong, i do i usually get more), but for me thats the price of a good education without sacrificing personal agendas. I might catch the news headlines whilst i'm cooking, thats about all the TV I watch at the moment. Uni life is very much what you make it (or don't make it, in many peoples cases).james10999 wrote:Obviously you don't know students in this day and age then!0 -
Yet you have time to sit around using the internet?
Other people just choose to use their time different i.e. watching television.
I'm a student and I go out plenty, watch lots of television and play lots of games. But at the same time, I also do a lot of reading and work. Its about good time management. Doesn't make me less of a student or a less worthy student in anyway.~Diminutive0
