yep i am a long time sufferer of the rotten strawberries!we live in a small town the only supermarket is tescos. boh me and my kids love strawberries but it seems after a day or so the ones at the bottom of the tub go all soft and smooshy, and are almost always fluffy with mould within 2 days!ADVISE-"I advise you get help"

Its not a apparent. Its a fact:D
Even verne kay said it on the radio. His dad used to run (may still do) a fruit and veg shop and he worked there when a kid.
Have heard it from other sources as well and keep my bananas away from the fruit as well.
Not sure if the process is speeded up when banana are riper as well.
Bananas don't ripen as quickly if you take them all apart from each other. I was thrilled when I discovered this because I like my bananas crunchy.0 -
I find that the mangoes from there go soft after a couple of days so have to be eaten either on the day or the day after. cos they're a bit pricey I consider them a treat and its always a shame to go to slice them up and find half of it's squishy and black.0

The apples until fairly recently will either be from somewhere like Israel or Italy, or if they have the British logo on before about 14th August, must surely have spent the best part of a year in a super chilled room, or oxygen-reduced atmosphere? Apples are only just coming into season in the UK.
So - either the super chilling/oxygen-reduced atmosphere is causing the fruit to spoil when it warms up/accesses oxygen, or the timescale of the air freighting is having an impact on quality.
It might help to try to buy British and buy seasonally. Better still, get bothered enough to support your local greengrocer. They are much better at quality and value, not to mention a personable and helpful service.
I am a real nutcase about this, because of poor quality experiences in the past. I also hate the idea of either supporting corrupt regimes like Israel pinching Palestinian farmland, or Kenya using prime grazing land denied to the local people and water (that is scarce there anyway) to produce food and "organic" roses for us. I dislike the idea of things that are in season here still being freighted in from Peru and Guatemala, like broccoli and runner beans. What a waste of airspace and fuel!
I know someone will try to justify it claiming that the local people get vital money from it, but I doubt it actually gets back to the people it displaces or starves. A few foreign factory owners will benefit the most, more than likely.0 -
Mines always been good from there, but am careful to go for stuff thats well within the sell by date.0

I've had problems with the tomatoes from Tesco, the pre packed ones rather than loose.
In almost every pack recently there's been "hairy" tomatoes hidden underneath others...sort of like a grey beard all around them.
And even though most of the ones in the pack didn't have this, by the next morning 80% would be affected. Of course, I'd chucked the hairy ones out as soon as I discovered them.
So the entire pack would be thrown out. I've stopped buying Tesco tomatoes altogether now for this reason.0 -

Just went and separated all my bananas! I hate them when they go soft, like them when they are just past green so only buy 2 or 3 at a time. Luckily i have a sainsburys about 30 seconds walk from me so can pick fresh ones up regularly. The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -
I find Tesco strawberrys and grapes are especially vunerable to early decay. The apples & bananas usually fare better. I've been buying a few pineapples from Tesco recently & they have always been good quality so far.0

Tesco soft fruits don`t seem to last long but credit where credits due I`ve found their apples, oranges etc to be far better than other s/markets.0
