I guess I might be one of Azari's so-called 'freelance mods'.

I find it annoying when someone resurrects an old thread as sometimes it causes members, who with the best of intentions in trying to help, to waste their time before realising that the advice someone has sought was 5 years old.

The thread mentioned by Outpost was resurrected by someone who didn't have anything positive to say, just a criticism of the OP:

Heather + Tom, maybe if you improved your own attitude you wouldn't be so angry.

I just can't see the point in resurrecting old threads if that's what you're going to say.

However, as other people have pointed out, it's sometimes relevant to post on the bottom of an old thread.

I think thriftymanc has it absolutely spot-on with his comments above, especially about the likelihood of people reading the first post and replying to that instead of the newest post.

Other than people answering the OP in a long dead thread I cannot see what the problem is.

Maybe you can see the point now, Azari.
It's not just a 'small but persistant group of posters whining'.

Sorry if you don't like it, but if I see a post similar to the one quoted above by Ladybirds that drags up and old thread and adds absolutely nothing, I will continue to ask that poster what the point is.

Why not just check the dates before getting too immersed?

Better still (imho) don't drag up old threads just to berate somebody who last logged on 2-and-a-half years ago.....

    I beg to differ.

It is, by and large, just a few busybodies.

    No you're not. ;)

And I'll continue to ask what business it is of yours. :D

that's fine by me, I have no issue at all with your post.

Do, by all means, continue to ask what business it is of mine.

I do not have to conform to what you deem acceptable.

    Of course you don't. :)

Did I ever suggest you did?

For what it's worth I don't personally consider this to be the cardinal sin that some people seem to class it as. :)

Newbies in particular (with their shiny new badges protecting them) who are unfamiliar with the workings of the forum posting in an old thread don't really deserve the hostile response they sometimes receive.

I can't see what harm it does to be honest.

    It works both ways, Outpost.

I wouldn't really expect a newbie on any forum to drag up a very old thread just to have a go at the OP.

I think we should all maybe view this in context - it's OK on some threads, not so acceptable on others.
This is my opinion, I do not expect or need anybody else to agree with me.

I was criticised for politely asking why a fast-food troll dragged a 3.5 year old thread up https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/642925
If they had offered an opinion, fine but to seemingly do so simply to boost their post count looked dodgy. Not to some though :(
