I shall post my view on this in about 18 monthsIf At First You Don't Succeed, Call It Version 1.00

I do think that on occasion we experienced users can be a little impatient with newbies. On the otherhand it's annoying to read 3 pages of a thread and then realise it was in 2007 that the washing machine broke and Currys wouldn't come out.
I don't think that's so bad. For a start, it doesn't take long to glance at the date of posting. And for example, if in 2007 Currys wouldn't come out but made a pledge to improve customer service, if someone posts now saying they're STILL not coming out, it just gives people a realistic view of whether they've improved or not.0 -
The ones that annoy me, are when someone answers a question directly to the OP from a thread 4 or 5 years old when the OP has 1 post or all their posts are in the same thread.
I think that once a thread hasn't been posted to for over a period of time say 2 years it should be locked automatically. That way it is still there for usefulness, but we don't get things such as the above happening.0 -
There is another one, is my offers a scam, that was resurrected by a newbie a little while ago.
Why don't we start a hunt for 1 wonder newbies who resurrect old threads and are never heard of again?0 -

To what end? There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
That's a good idea, Foz. If no posts after 2 years the thread gets locked.0

Why is it that a small but persistent group of posters insist on whining if an old thread is resurected?
It doesn't hurt anyone. It is unlikely to rip a hole in the space time continuum.
If the thread is still of interest it will hang around for a while and if it isn't it will quickly drop back into obscurity. Just like any other thread!
If TPTB thought it was a problem they could easily lock all threads over a certain age.
Other than people answering the OP in a long dead thread I cannot see what the problem is.
theres the new posters who will ressurect a thread(whether they have anything relevant to say or not) then they dont post
or theres the new posters who will resurrect a thread (with something relevant) but for some reason they didnt start a new thread0 -
To what end?
To pee off the people who complain?0 -
What about complaining about posters who don't know the difference between theres, should be there's, new when it should be knew etc.
Oh! sorry, been done.0
