Asbokid,
Again thank you for your help, I think I may leave the static address thing at the moment, its working, and I am grateful for that.
The local computer chappie phoned a wee while again and said he could come out tomorrow, I said no need, I have fix it with alot of help from the internet and forums:D
The printer I have doesn't seem to able to switch it self on if I send to print, I have to walk to the printer and switch it on and then it will print, is this usual.
Do you think I will be able to set up the other laptops to print wireless as well, they are not the same version Windows, one is XP, one is Vista and i'm running Windows 7, does this make it more difficult? Do I follow the advice from your earlier post in order to get them working. Sorry for all the questions, you seem to know your stuff, and you have been most patient with me so far.

UPDATE:
I have the printer working on one of the other laptops as well.
One more to go, but I don't know the password, will have to wait for DS to come home.

Asbokid,

Good stuff! The only caveat is that if and when you turn the printer off (or the router off) the IP address that was assigned to the printer will be lost.
When you turn the printer (or the router) on again, a different IP address may be assigned to it.
And that means that all of the laptops which had their printer settings configured in Windows to use that original printer IP address, will suddenly find that they cannot connect to the printer (since it now has a new IP address which the laptops haven't been told about).
That is why I prefer static IP addressing.. If you assign the printer a static IP address, you don't have to worry about re-configuring every computer that prints to it.The local computer chappie phoned a wee while again and said he could come out tomorrow, I said no need, I have fix it with alot of help from the internet and forumsThe printer I have doesn't seem to able to switch it self on if I send to print, I have to walk to the printer and switch it on and then it will print, is this usual.
Have you had a previous printer that had some sort of standby or sleep mode, that was automatically awoken when a document was sent to it?Do you think I will be able to set up the other laptops to print wireless as well, they are not the same version Windows, one is XP, one is Vista and i'm running Windows 7, does this make it more difficult?Do I follow the advice from your earlier post in order to get them working.0 -
I regularly switch the router off, as sometimes our internet connection cannot be found. I may have to set up the static ip address then. off to re-read your post.0

I think I may have made the IP address static on the printer, I went onto embedded Web Services via a link I found on HP website, and selected manual IP address instead of automatic. Waited 10 mins while it processed, added a new port in printer and devices with the new IP address, ran up stairs, switched the router off, switched it back on again, and hey presto the IP address on the printer has remained static.
My laptop is printing too:D
Does sound like I have made the IP address static. I'm going to switch the router off while I have a glass of whisky and turn it back on and see if the IP address is the same on the printer, I could regret this.0
