She is going to send me the photo tomorrow. I just checked her feedback left for others, she leaves a lot of negatives and seems to be very fussy. I am not the first nor the last judging from her track record. I just know its going to be the smallest dent ever.

I will still try and make a claim tomorrow, thanks!

I'm so sorry that this has happened to you. Some buyers won't be happy even after you have refunded them and they have the item for nothing. I appreciate their item will no longer be perfect but the real loss will be for you. At least you can (politely) respond to their feedback saying a full refund was given, all that was in your power was done. If other buyers are anything like me they read the seller's responses to negative feedback and make a judgement on whether or not it was fairly awarded. Personally when I've had a damaged/wrong item and been refunded I leave positive feedback with a..item was damaged but seller quick to resolve.
I really hope she doesn't leave you horrible feedback but it's sadly out of your hands now.

    Good Luck!!

could you not just tell royal mail it was the empty tin you sent rather than saying it had food in it?

you wouldn't get away with that because RM require supporting info such as a print out of the auction details which would show it to be full of biccies...also the weight of the item would be significantly different empty to full.

Small update. She sent a photo, didn't say anything. As expected it was a tiny dent on the bottom of the tin which isn't noticeable. I apologized and issued the refund. The refund is pending and won't clear until 7 days. Hopefully she will not hold this against me as I have gone above and beyond with this. I also requested a final value credit from eBay. It's been my first ever complaint and its been really stressful!

I just hope she doesn't leave a negative that destroys my 100% 600+ (mostly from buying!) feedback. If she does I will explain underneath as suggested.

Her recent negatives were (get this) -wouldn't cover gas costs to return item-seller refused to refund 50c-rip off! originally bought at dollar tree then sold it for more.

So as you can see I am worried and hate that I have to wait as she probably won't leave feedback until she receives payment. This experience has put me of selling abroad and I may consider UK only sales if I end up selling anything in the future.

It's ashame I can't claim the postage back - I looked on the form today and it needs the eBay number etc, so I will just forget it.

It's out of my hands now. I will just have to wait it out. What happens will happen.

Thanks for the advice everyone :)

I have recently started selling (couple of months) and I know something like this will happen to me one day, it seems to be part of selling. You have handled it well so just move on.
If she leaves bad feedback then shame on her, you have done your best.

Don't change your selling habits because of one customer if selling aboard is working for you (this type of customer exists in the UK as well).

Put in a claim to Royal Mail, worst they can do is say no.

if she negs you, you could always try complaining to ebay that she hasn't returned the item....dunno how for you'd get with it though...

jabdc5@ About the negative - that would only stand if it was resolved through paypal where she agrees to return the item then the refund is issued. I have already issued the refund without using the resolution form so they wouldn't be anything eBay could do.

No Eye Deer@ You will find that the majority of buyers are friendly and the transactions are present. As long as the item is described well, wrapped securely and the correct postage is charged then you should be fine. Sometimes customers are not happy but it's a learning experience. I learned - get correct postage rates before listing item and wrap them very well. I handed the situation very professionally but sometimes the buyers will not appreciate it. I could have made her return it but I thought about how I'd feel if I had to do that. Anyway I hope this never happens to you but if it does stay calm and try and resolve the situation. If they buyer is not happy they can damage your reputation with a negative even if its not deserved so try and avoid that at all costs. Knowing you have done your best that is all you can do. If I get a negative I will know it was unfair and I did the right thing at the end of the day.

Anyway, She has declined my request for the final credit fee and now I can't open that again. I thought that was kinda mean of her - again more £ loss to me. We did discuss that the transaction was over and I was really nice plus she has a free item even if its damaged at no cost to her. I think eBay should make this automatic if a refund is issued using paypal.

I will fill in the claims form anyway just to see what happens. Maybe If I explain it was the tin itself that I am claiming for not the contents they will see that is the real value. Like you said, no harm in trying. I would feel better if I could at least get part of the postage refunded.

Ask them to take photos of the damage. The postage and packaging refers to postal fee and also wrapping fee, material and also TIME! Return for an exchange. Never give away to suckers like this kind, which try to abuse the system
