I've really lost the plot/patience with this thread. There's so many different interpretions being given but if you go to the tvlicencing website it states very clearly when you do and do not need a licence!Never let it get you down... unless it really is as bad as it seems.0

Complete and utter RUBBISH ! I can only assume you work for TVL spreading falsehoods such as that..............0 -
Surely the crucial point about all this is what do you do when they knock on your door...?0

Under Section 2(1) of the Wireless Telegraphy Act 1967 - Notification and recording of transactions - retailers are obliged to notify the Secretary of State of the Particulars of sale or lease of all television receiving equipment...hudgebadger wrote: »The magic words are television receiving equipment.

How on earth did you come to that conclusion?! The quote by asbokid, which you're referring to, regards the obligations of retailers. It doesn't even mention the word "licence"!
A retailer must tell the Secretry of State when he/she sells television receiving equipment. A person must buy a license if they watch or record live television broadcasts. It's really that simple (well, maybe with a few small clarifications and exemptions!).0 -
Why do you think you need a TV to watch your downloaded content and DVDs/etc. ?0

Well for your info
I do not watch ANY TV by any method and have not for many years
Obviously I do not have a licence
I have told the TVL all this many times - and they admit I have told them.
Yet I receive endless letters addressed to the legal occupier containing various threats.
The latest is promising me a personal visit.....bring it on I say...the police are likely to be called -by me rather than by the TVL.
Presumably putting a TV detector van outside my house and waiting fruitlessly for hours upon hours, day after day for anything is too expensive compared to sending threatening letters to the legal occupier....all of which are now filed in the appropiate place.0 -
Watch TV as it's broadcast live = TV license
Don't watch it live = No TV license required
SimplesIf Adam and Eve were created first
.Does that mean we are all inbred0
