That's what I said her last one ends at the end of April so the next day is the start of June!! : )
Of course the DVLA could still penalise you by way of an £80 penalty, so it's probably not adviseable to let it go.0 -
I woulndt go in the car though, its sod's law you'll get stopped. Then they can fine you.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I have heard it will be about 6 weeks before the DVLA computer gets the jitters...
Probably so that offenders get enough time to 'hang themselves' so to speak?
Apart from a 'fine'...don't forget they will also bill the RK for any back tax owed.
This alone can lead to nightmare scenarios if the vehicle has been recently purchased......and the VED or SORN are not 'continuous'...No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
You said that the Tax automatically starts from when the old on ends, or at least that how I read it. The new tax actually starts from when you purchase it, and runs for 6 or 12 months from the beginning of that month. So if she bought the tax in August, even though it expired in April, it'll run from August.
Of course the DVLA could still penalise you by way of an £80 penalty, so it's probably not adviseable to let it go.
It doesn't as you can buy it early and it doesn't start from that day..for example mine ends the end of May but I brought it yesterday or the day before and it starts from the day my last one endsA lot of fellows nowadays have a B.A., M.D., or Ph.D. Unfortunately, they don't have a J.O.B."0 -
Of course if she left it til August that would be a huge problem if it hadn't been SORN etc...by then the OP would have more than likely received a fine etc or possibly even got it clamped...A lot of fellows nowadays have a B.A., M.D., or Ph.D. Unfortunately, they don't have a J.O.B."0

i thought you had a 14 day grace period from the day after your tax expired.0

Sorry to be bearer of bad news but they might fine him! Not when he goes to tax the vehicle though, it'll be a letter through the post for not retaxing or declaring SORN. £80 I think?
However, to compensate the bad news...... The DVLA cannot fine you, seeing as they are neither a court or a council. They do however try it on with their made up "laws".
Luckily the fact that you wrote to them and declared SORN at the end of last month means their illegal demands would struggle to get past the most uneducated of magistrates. The fact they lost your decaration is their fault.
Pay it now, and no harm is done.0 -
Heres the deal,
My car tax ran out at the end of April and I genuinely forgot about it. I just realised tonight and so am going to the post office first thing to get a disc...I'm over the 14 days eeeeeeeeeeek
Will they fine me? Will they even sell me a disc??No, they won't fine you. They'll sell you a disc, buy one online now if you want
http://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/ Go here and do vehicle enquiry on your car and it will say Licence due to expire, not expired.
You cannot buy online once the tax has expired. Or you couldn't.
There is also a cut-off date within the following month at which the local post office cannot do it either. I can't remember the exact date, maybe 15th, 20th or the end.
If so, it's necessary to go to the local DVLA office to renew. I did this 3 or 4 years ago when I hadn't used the car for a few days, then was ill for a few days more, and forgot the tax, and the post office turned me down to do it there. It was slightly into the next month when I went to the local office and I just paid for 13 months, no penalty.atrixblue.-MFR-. wrote: »i thought you had a 14 day grace period from the day after your tax expired.
To renew it if the car is unused, yes, but the car must not be on the road with no tax.0
