Until the thread is locked people can still comment on it. What's your issue with that?

If you are bored of the thread, no-one is forcing you post or even read it.
I just feel I have to comment on the repetitive posts as they annoy me more than the charges annoy you! ;)
  • I ordered a gift from China for Valentine's. I have been tracking it online - it states online that 'attempted delivery' took place on Saturday 21st February 2015 at 8:15am. It did not - I was at home and furthermore, no out card was received.

Today I received a posted slip detailing the charges for my parcel:
    £8.83 Import VAT
    £13.50 Clearance Fee
    Total of £22.33

This total is a third of what I paid for the item. It's completely outrageous to charge this amount for a small item which only cost this much because it was customised (and therefore worthless to anyone else).

ADVICE PLEASE on contesting this absurd charge.

    Thanks in advance

Yes you didnt receive a card as it has a fee to pay. So kinda obvious on that front........

Advice, well how about reading the thread, ranting again . Then find a Tardis, jump back and deal with your own clearance.
    seemples.

Well aren't you a gift to humanity in the form of an absolute delight.

I don't find it obvious - I find it a fraudulent claim. If the entry had read "Item held due to fee" then it would perhaps be "kinda obvious". It did not - it read "attempted delivery". This is utter BS.

Incidentally, many of the posts in this thread are now pretty old, hence my post.

Thanks for being such an ace human being my friend.

Royal Mail/Parcelforce don't deliver items from foreign countries out of the kindness of their heart. USPS, Deutche Poste etc.. will be paying them for the final leg of the journey.

IMO RM/Parcelforce should just be charging these foreign couriers more to include the customs clearance.

All that being said. Parcelforce's £8 is less than some charge, and they email you so you pay online and minimise any delay.

So increase all postage costs for importers?

not everything incurs these charges though.

    One question for you though,

Would you, instead of paying the handling fee for clearing customs, do it all yourself and would probably involve a trip down to Heathrow or whatever airport it came into?

Maybe we can try and get something done about this. I've opened a change.org petition to get the consumer's stance clarified and suggest a way around the issue. If anyone feels the same way about this as I do, I invite them to sign: https://www.change.org/p/ofcom-reform-international-postage-carrier-handling-fees?recruiter=418141878&utm_source=share_for_starters&utm_medium=copyLink

Post #523 already tried that with a proper government one and that didn't work. Why do you think your 3rd party one will ?
