There's the import duty, and then there's the fee for processing it. Two seperate things.

Andy managed to work out the import duty, but didn't think that he'd be charged to process it.

As for the goods being "held to ransom", well, if you have a business account with the delivery company then yes, you'll get the fee in your next invoice. If you don't have an account with them, then they will want payment up front. It's how most businesses work! Try ordering something from Tescos online and telling them you won't pay until after they've delivered the goods
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
    2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
    3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?

So what's your solution? Just drop the packets off at HMRC?

Look at how many people have signed. Doesn't seem to be attracting the masses!

Why? Just tell them you will perform your own clearance. Or do you want them to do it for free for you? You're so short sighted!

If you buy a package and pay USPS for shipping, when it gets to the UK Parcelforce take over the package. USPS will be paying a fee to Parcelforce for this service.

So may take on it that Parcelfoce have already been paid, why should you then have to pay them again for clearing customs? When they took on the job they knew the package would have to go through customs and should include this cost to the amount the charge USPS.

I bet you it wouldn't ba as high as £8

Depends what USPS contract & pay for. If its postage within the UK and Customs clearance then you'd be right. However since not on packages are liable to customs (and thus it would cost them time & effort to work out which do) I suspect they only contract for UK delivery & let the customs charges fall where they fall.

DHL charge the higher of £10 or 2% of the value. £8 looks like a bargain

Until the thread is locked people can still comment on it. What's your issue with that?

I was merely stating what I believe should happen.

If you are bored of the thread, no-one is forcing you post or even read it.
