glad im not the only one seeing that
to the poster asking about avoiding parcel force.i already posted some other couriers and their clearence fee's.
i also showed how some like UPS allow the sender to select a service which negates clearence fee's
what more can i do
and to the person who is going to avoid parcelforce.are you going to blacklist all international couriers who charge clearence fee's?0 -
At least the other international couriers have the good grace to deliver your package with an invoice, rather than refusing to deliver until it's paid for (creating a delivery delay of at least 24 hours).0

so your happy to pay it,just want to pay after invoice?
it maybe the fact parcel force takes over part of the journey as opposed to the likes of UPS,DHL who are transporting the item the whole journey.0 -

On the occasions RM has delivered a chargeable shipment - no hefty clearance fee either. So why is Parcelfarce allowed to rip us off? Unfortunately when buying from abroad Parcelfarce is the carrier selected 99% of the time and is just another illegal scam to rip us off.
UPS DO charge a Brokerage Surcharge. They tried to deliver a parcel from the Disney US website to me yesterday. The cash they want from me (yes cash) is £33.26 , £11 of which is UPS Surcharge.
The import VAT is wrong where it has been worked out against dollars but I can claim that back from Customs & Excise but have been told that the UPS surcharge is because they have had to pay Customs & Excise the Import VAT (which on the invoice looks like UPS have worked out incorrectly).
Spent the best part of yesterday trying to sort this out getting the run around from UPS.
Basically it is blackmail. I don't mind paying the import VAT for which I am liable but this other £11 is really not on.
Disney charged me to deliver the parcel to my door (which I paid) and say in their t's & c's that I am liable for taxes and duties. The brokerage charge does not fit into either of these categories.
I need the goods for a Birthday present at the end of the week so will be rail roaded into paying the charges today but after reading this thread will be taking it further.
Thanks to you other posters for all the info.0 -
have you requested they return it to customs?0

Hello again,
I have been told yesterday by Sean O'Hara (Post Comm) that Royal Mail have not provided legislation that allows them to hold packets in lien for their clearance fees. PostComm is sympathetic with my view that our right to pay import duties directly to Customs has been taken away and is approaching Post Watch about an on-line payment system.
It seems that Royal Mail are so desperate to cover their !!!!!! and not be found guilty until the last possible moment, they now want to see the original written notes of the relevant sections of the Postal Services Act 2000 to see if anything has been left out or misinterpreted. Their lawyers are clutching at straws.
In my view, and with regard to the current situation where Royal Mail cannot provide evidence that they are holding packets in lien legally, they should notify all depot staff to hand over packets to disgruntled customers immediately, if they refuse to do this, they are putting their staff in danger of prosecution.
Sean O'Hara has also told me the only way to enforce the Act is for me (or any other individual) to seek a criminal prosecution through the Crown Prosecution Service, I will be making my statement to the police on Tuesday.
If this has happened to you and you want to prosecute, please let me know by phone or text - 0790 2552777

Be prepared for the police to ignore you.0 -
rather than 'hand over all items' they can just return them all to customs for a refund
problem solved for RM
@geolabuk i hope your not in my delivery area as spouting regulations on a busy day would produce an interesting response :A0 -

Prosecution by whom?
And for what?
Is it not obvious that if RM don't collect the VAT and duty before they hand over the parcel then said VAT and duty will in most cases not be paid and the cost of persuing the non payers will be non economical?
And why should any company which provides a service not be able to charge?0 -
Custardy - Tom Richardson at Morriston Police Station has been phoning me every week to proceed with the prosecution - He is under the direction of the Chief Inspector who I have already spoken to - They are not going to ignore me.0
