Hi Astonsmummy,
You could have a look at Megatrain. They don't go to Manchester from London, but they do go to other places like Bath and Bristol, which might be enjoyable, and they are extraordinarily cheap.
I don't know whether Megatrain are any good, but my daughter uses Megabus all the time and has no complaints. Very basic, but they get you where you're going.
The 23rd is not available for booking yet - it only goes up to the 21st, but the 23rd and after should appear in a few days.
Have a lovely time, whatever you decide to do.

I live in Manchester city-centre and its a fab place to come for a weekend! The Megabus (Megabus.com) runs from London to Manchester - it's loads cheaper than the train although a bit longer etc. You could make a picnic with some bucks fizz for the journey though, so get off to a romantic start (not too much to drink on the coach though - not sure what the toilets are like!) :rotfl:
Hotels in the Fallowfield area are much cheaper than the city centre and although it's quite noisey and full of students, if you're going out anyway it doesn't matter - plus taxi is only around £7 (about £10 after midnight) into town (there are also really cheap buses - you can get to town for 60p).
Curry Mile is quite an experience (like Las Vegas meets Bollywood) and you can get a curry really cheap if you don't mind gaudy decor. There are also cheap places to eat in town - the Shangai Chinese buffet on Whitworth St is about £9.50 on weekend nights for all you can eat, or Chinatown has some good cheap grub.
Manchesterconfidential.com is a good place to trawl for offers on nights out etc too. There are so many things to do - a bit of cunning planning and your budget should do it
New flat, new budget, new commitment to MSE!

Ah- memories, my 1st proper date withmy DH was at the Sanam in curry mile over 20 years ago. Manchester is a good place to live, I am one of those students who stayed. I'm still not sure I would pick it for a romantic weekend away though.earn what you can, save what you can, give what you can :hello:0

I have decided on a really nice hotel not too far from me, near brighton, which has a sauna, jacuzzi, etc.
It's only £62 for one night and all the leisure facilities are free, i'm gonna go down there earlier on in the day and decorate the room with a banner and a few ballons, etc and gonna ask them for a icebucket so i can put a bottle of champers in it.
There is a restaurant at the hotel so we dont have to go anywhere, and i bought a naughty weekend pack for xmas but am now going to save for this night and put it all out on the bed for when we retire to the room!:j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j0
