Nice to know how highly the service users think of you. Should make the managers a bit more aware of what a good employee you are, but your post does kind of read that you seemed to have made your mind up already? (ie you were disappointed that your Mum said stick it out.)

Over the next few days I'm sure it will become clearer what your gut feeling really is.

    All the best with it.

Yeah I think I already had cos I was just feeling so grotty about it all. We'll shall wait and see what happens.

Really appreciate all your comments and thoughts

I just wanted to send you a hug. It's horrid feeling crappy about a job but it seems you do get quite a lot out of the job too. Would it be worth hanging on to see how all this is resolved after that friday meeting and then seeing how you like working the reduced hours. One things for sure though, if you do leave you should let them know that it was the way that they treated you that made them lose a loyal worker. Good luck and I hope it's sorted to your liking soon. xx

  • Hi Cg

It is a tough situation to be in. My only advice is don't do anything because you think people will like you more or will stop liking you etc.

I have done things so I think more people will like me and have got into trouble and/or debt.

My suspicion is one of the reasons you don't want to leave is that you think your service users will stop liking you. I hope I am wrong.

Good luck with whatever decision you make.

  • HI CG -thanks for the update.

Oh wow, what an update you got from your friend! Well now, you'll have to hang on in there to see how this pans out then.

Looks like your Mum had one of those great 'Mum's intuition' moments possibly?

Just wanted to say as well that it's very good of you to worry about the service users' health as well. Remember they have a right to express themselves though if they feel strongly about something...clearly they do!

Perhaps you are right, perhaps I am concerned about people liking me or liking me less depending on the decision I make. I am sick of thinking about it and don't have to go back until the end of the week, when maybe I will have further info to base my decision on.

  • Hi - I would have to say "Leave" - your cons far out-weigh the pros.
I once listed my pros and cons re. moving dept at work - pros were numerous and cons only one, but it was a BIG one and I ended up moving. Gave me much peace of mind. Good luck with your decision!

Crawley_girl you are obviously highly thought of and give the most important thing to your service users and that is yourself. I have always worked in industries where my personality has been instrumental in me earning a living and have often been abused by employers but I stood firm and left where necessary and have even been begged back by 2 employers. (I said 'yes' to them both and then reneged at the last minute to show them how disappointing it is to be promised something and then be denied it ! A case of the biter 'bit' !!)

Your managers have been using the good old emotional blackmail trick that they use on nurses. They know they enjoy the job so can practically do anything to them and they will still turn up for work because these people are dedicated to serving their patients and for the common good of mankind.

If you left, could you still go back and visit ? Forgive my lack of knowledge about these things but that way you could still have some contact with the service users which would benefit you and them and not the bosses.

Good luck with this, personally I would leave but this is a decision for you and you only.
Thanks to MSE I cleared £37k of debt in five years and I was lucky enough to meet Martin to thank him personally.
  • Well, for the time being I have decided to stick it out.

I got a goodbye present from 3 of the service users who go to one of my groups, yesterday and I must admit that I got a bit tearful! It was so thoughtful and totally me.

Things have gone from bad to worse re: the managers, but hey ho!

I think that deep down you have made up your mind what to do, and if that is the case then go with your instincts.

Whatever you choose to do, you will move into the new year knowing that you are in control here.

Well things have taken a bit of a turn as I suspected they would.

The service users have demanded a meeting with the area manager to discuss a variety of issues and are being hostile to the person who has taken over the 2 groups that I used to run.

All of the staff have refused to work with one of the managers saying that it isn't safe when she is around and the members are saying the same thing. She has been taken off the 'hands on shifts' and now lots of hours available... I have spoken to the big boss and explained my concerns and she said that she is aware of the situation and is doing her best to rectify everything. She thanked me for my honesty and said that it couldn't be easy to verbalise my concerns.

Not sure what I will do re: extra hours, cos I am still feeling a bit down and undervalued and sad that it has taken so long for someone to listen but at least I have done everything that I could to make them understand my reasons for being a bit stand offish!

Luckily I have been signed off for a further week so the decision is kinda taken out of my hands at present!
