I'm proud to say I'm on the home straight to Debt Freedom because of everyone on this board and life DFW stylee is a revelation. Hard work initially going through every detail, but worth every penny that I have spent paying back the debt. I have regained control :D[/QUOTE]

    Hi Ali
    feel Ive really missed something.
What was your biggie to get rid of so much all of a sudden?

I feel maybe people are then overwhelmed that they have shared so much information & maybe wish that they hadent so then dissapear.Thought provoking thread.

  • Hello

I am still very new and don't have the time to read this board every day (or every other day) so tend to skim through many posts. I do allow myself a good chunk of time at the weekend though!

As I am so new I don't feel that qualified to offer advice and actually feel quite humbled by the very regular posters. After all, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing and I certainly only have a little knowledge of being a DFW!!

I do belong to a different site - nothing in relation to this one - and rarely post on there but have been known to blow the odd gasket when it was warranted, and because I have been a member for so long, feel I am able to as I so rarely do. Does that make sense??

    anyway

keep up the good work. Might be worth bearing in mind (as I felt a bit like this) that once you unload your darkest worries to complete strangers you may feel ashamed/embarrassed/loathe to post again/wish the ground would swallow you up.

    Have a nice evening!

taxi73 & Beanielou - £13,430.48 came 2 weeks ago from a different lightbulb moment - I had 2 endowments, both likely to underperform their target, both doing nothing useful (mortgage on full repayment)...so I cashed them in and threw all of it at the debt..including the 48p ;) and now I'm also throwing the once premiums of £100 a month at the debt too!

It's weird that each day/week/month that I'd checked my budget since March, I didn't see those as things that could be used to my advantage in this way. Pleased now though!

So, could be called cheating, but also could be seen as cashing in savings.
    Back on the DFW Wagon:

    CC - £3,300 on 0% til 04/2020
    CC - £4,500 on 0% til 02/2019
    Loan - £12,063.84 as at 4/1/18

IMO this board although very helpful with lovely caring people is very daunting for a newbie, although I posted 1 or 2 times I tend to stick to other boards as I personally found this one very hard to get involved in.

Its great that theres a community built up and the support is fantastic but it can sometimes be hard for a new person to be included.

I hope I havent offended anyone and this is no way is directed at anybody, It's just my humble opinion. I have to admit I'm probably the biggest lurker here and will offer advice as and where I can

With me I sometimes have to make myself dissapear as (dare I admit this???) I get desperate and addicted. I start to spend so much time online that everything else grinds to a halt. I try hard to reply to others, but often end up deleting my post before it's made as I feel it's useless - but I want so much to help others the way they've helped me. I then realise that I've been neglecting my family and even spending more money as a result (ie chippy chips because I neglected to cook.... - yikes, I'm being too honest here!) and eventually I ban myself from the net full stop!
I love this board so much that whenever I start to wander back to the net it's never long before I'm back on Old style or DFW. This time it was because I was looking for info on accounts for a bankrupt friend and the light in my lightbulb started to flicker at me again.
I'm still struggling with deciding as to what to do for the best - whether to go DMP or to see if I can keep afloat with all the juggling. Perhaps there are others like me, and if they decide to keep juggling feel that they don't belong as a DFW? It's not because you guys aren't welcoming/helpfull, you all are (so far in my experience!) but as someone else said, it's hard to face things sometimes - if you've been in the dark for a long time it's hard to keep your eyes open when the lightbulb is shining bright!

I remember when I was dealing with my debts, I posted to start with about how much I owed and my situation ,etc (on another site). Once I'd had some advice I then went off and spoke to the CCCS and then once you're in the process, most questions will be pretty straight forward and a quick browse through the forums gave me the answers, so no need to post. Only when you've gone through the processes did I then bother to post back, as I wanted to tell people what had happened (aside from those IRL who are always opinionated about debts). Nowadays I lurk because I found the bargains section first and have slowly drifted into the other areas of the site, and I didn't really come here originally to start posting about debt again! I think a lot of people need that initial batch of advice and encouragement more than anytihng, and then they're generally ok going it alone.

  • It is easy to get addicted reading all the posts in the different areas gaining so much knowledge and information and trying to help other people - I am just trying to find my original post so I can update it - i have almost felt like it wasnt worth adding to it until I could come back and give some kind of an update (even a small one) which I will do - there is such a volume of posts it is difficult to keep up - there probably will need to be an SOA sub folder at some point. I like other have lurked for a while and it is only after my third period of coming on this site that I have felt ready to post and share information about my own situation.

But for the people in dire situations Im sure that just getting their situation out on the page is some kind of relief at the time and even if they havent managed to come back they would have found the process of some help
:j Where there is a will there is a way - there is a way and I will find it :j
