It's true that the DFW board has become a little community within itself in some ways - you get to know people well, and then if you have news, you want to share it with the people you chat to regularly, even if your news isn't really to do with money saving. I'm not sure what the solution is really, because the diaries are a fantastic source of information and inspiration, which I wouldn't want to lose or separate from the main board, but it's also true that some posts can get a bit 'lost'.

I would hate to feel that people were not getting replies to their posts though - I always try and look through the last couple of pages to make sure there are no posts without replies dropping down the board without anyone trying to help, and bump them back up if possible. Sorry Gemmzie if this has happened to you.

I've asked for help several times for my father since I've sorted my mum's affairs with the great help here, and no-one answers. There are always threads which get no answers :(

I'm really sorry to hear that Gemmzie. I try to get here as often as possible and spend a good half hour just reading through the new threads, and those that I have replied to. I also have noticed that there are often threads that get no replies - sometimes that is the nature of the forum - there may just not be someone, reading, with the knowledge or experience to reply to a specific enquiry, and, these days, it doesn't take long for a thread to drop 3 or 4 pages into near obscurity.
I certainly try to post in any thread where I feel that I may have an input - sometimes just a word or two of reassurance, but, due to the wide range of threads, I often find that I have no real input. I do try to bump up any thread which I feel is missing out on answers in the hope that others can help, and I'm sure that most of us would do the same.:grouphug:

Oh it was a funny thread, I laughed my head off so many times at your battles with the nits! (Sorry, don't mean to laugh at the misfortune of others, but you really made me giggle!)

  • IMHO I think it can be a bit daunting to some people as well. I bet a lot of the posters lurk a great deal, taking advice and inspiration. A lot of the time thats just what I do and then I have posting periods when I post quite a bit. Its getting to your own comfort level I suppose!

I lurk alot, and get great ideas, and when i think i can help someone i post

hi all i posted on this board a while ago i do still read the threads but usually post on the os board we are still dealing with our debts and would not be doing so well if it wasnt for the help i recieved here but i think sometimes you move on from the lightbulb moment and after time the money saving ways become habbit and the debt lessens and life gets a little easier and you dont see it as such a big problem once all you good and kind people give us newbies the tools we need to start dealing with our problems

I agree with the OP and wonder what happens to some of those posters too - hopefully they've come back to read the advice and because of the fab generosity of the posters here, there can be so much of it to take in, disect and act on.

Coming out of your comfort zone to share your situation and positively react to some of the advice (like "ditch Sky you can't afford it!") can also be hard. I know I felt like that initially, but I still ditched it, but then my SOA wasn't my first post, so I felt like I'd already "met" several posters at that stage and dared to share the gritty details.

I don't post so much these days, if I see a post that I can add something to I will, but there are so many excellent regular posters that give advice, I'm usually half a mile behind :rotfl:

I'm proud to say I'm on the home straight to Debt Freedom because of everyone on this board and life DFW stylee is a revelation. Hard work initially going through every detail, but worth every penny that I have spent paying back the debt. I have regained control :D
