My daughter has defriended me on Fb - luckily as I teach her year group at school, they tell me stuff that I don't know!! Nothing bad - funny thing happened the other day, talking to OH on phone, but didn't get to phone before a/phone kicked in, saying how daughter had visited ex boyf and that I didn't know what's going on I suddenly got, "Because it's nothing to do with you", in my ear. She'd heard the conversation and picked up the phone to join in! Luckily we all laughed it off. But that's where all the texts are going, or a lot of them, to the ex (or is he??).

Oh to be 16 again, in some respects, and have the stuff and opportunities they have today! Jeez, I sound old!! It is really helpful to work with these kids tho', they keep me young (well, young thinking) and 'in the loop'.

I have been defriended by my 16 your old son also. Yesterday I had to resort to ringing the school to find out if he had finished his Biology GCSE as his exam timetable didn't show it. I have also given him today £22 for his Prom which he doesn't know when it is or what he is wearing. no doubt the night before he will tell me!

You have my sympathy mavisangelica - I dunno, kids! Still, dare say I was just as bad, just getting it all back in kind! Still secretly a bit of a rebel myself - that's why I get on so well with kids at school, I'm (mostly) on their side 'cos remember what it was like.

Yes I should! But unfortunately I find it extremely hard to win any argument with her at all! Her answer to everything is, "I'll give you the money"! I fully agree that at her age she should realize the value of money but despite have just finished a one year Law GCSE course plus, of course, all her other courses/lessons, she still doesn't seem to see my point. I just can't explain that money wasted is money wasted, whoever ends up spending it!

Take the phone one night and remove the sim, and snap it in half. Phone Virgin say the SIMs been damaged and you need a new one.

As you daughter says she will give you the money why not cut out the middle man and buy her a PAYG sim, and let her work out how much it costs, you can retain the sim card for your use until the contract expires and then cancel it.

Virgin Mobile are the worst for misuse of Unlimited.

They used to do "Unlimited Data" which was limited to a paltry 25MB per day, if you exceeded it you got charged.

How under any definition of unlimited this could be allowed I never understood.

Maybe I could get her adopted!

We literally live in the middle of nowhere - there is a bus, but I think probably only once or twice a day, nothing else within easy walking distance. No shops, no paper rounds (no paper shops), any Saturday or weekend work would entail me taking her and picking her up, which curtails my own time even more. I definitely wouldn't want her out on a bicycle around all these single track country lanes, far too dangerous, and certainly not a moped. I think she'd like a Saturday job, but first she has to find one, then she has to get there. Transport costs would probably amount to whatever she would earn! Stymied every which way I am!!

  • If you give her an allowance deduct the phone bill from it and when she complains/moans say "you did say you would give me the money". If she still complains say it like tax deducted at source!! :D

She informs me that there is no way that 409 texts will last her for another 12 days! This means that by the time her account is 'refreshed' instead of £15.00 there is every possibility that her bill is going to be nearer £50.00 or more. It is so easily done: and at her age, they text the person standing next to them! She even texts AND phones me from her bedroom, when I'm right next door!!

Maybe I have lost touch with the new generation but please could someone enlighten me as to how on earth these teanagers end up finding 3000 texts a month not sufficient!?

I mean it comes to a text every 5 minutes during waking hours during a whole month. Why not just call and have a quick conversation rather than keep on texting a line at a time and texting 100 times to communicate what could have been said in a 5 min conversation?

Maybe I lam daft and am simply on another planet as far as the users of 3000 text messages are concerned!

As for practical suggestions, switch to a giffgaff sim and use one of the goodybags. They make it clear that they have truly unlimited texts and internet.

    3000 a month is 100 texts a day!

I always knew about the limit, even though it's meant to be unlimited. There is usually a '*' or something next to the pricing, which explains about the fair usage policy.

If it were my daughter, I'm afraid I'd tell her that the 409 texts would have to last her the 12 days and that she better not go over the limit.

409 into 12 days is 34 texts to use a day ~ that is plenty!
