Its not just getting DLA, its keeping it too...!!

Its not just the issue of getting the award in the first place, its the issue of keeping it now that DWP under pressure from Government to reduce claimants. I had DLA Life award at Higher rate mobility and Middle rate care - enjoyed benefits for 12yrs until: _pale_

Failed to realise a “Life” award is not for life despite what it implies on the paperwork.:doh:

That you need to notify DWP-DLA of any little change of circumstances, to include:

Any possible change to your lifestyle. Any temporary change of address.
Any noticeable deterioration of condition. Any new additional medical conditions.
Any change to your private, personal relationships or status.
Any accidents or incidents that might affect your condition.
Any other issue that affects you - whether personal or private.

Finally, to naively believe that being honest and telling truth things will ok in end._pale_

Whilst the HUGE amount of extra paperwork received by the DWP might cause a backlog and bog the system down but there is really no choice as found out to my cost! And they do ask you to keep them informed after all!!!

It cost me - as without medical evidence of any nature against me, my award was suspended as failed notify change in circs when moved address and became single again during a messy divorce. But now despite attempts to get my DLA award reinstated or new claims made with a severe worsening of my condition, they all have been declined despite appeals, tribunals or worse!

So now think I'm being judged by my apparent failure of the past rather than my current situation as appear "blacklisted" from any future award to the detriment of my Human Rights.

Sorry to appear a scare monger...

But doesn't matter to them if you've had award for 20+yrs, severely disabled, an OAP etc you're just considered by them an easy target...you're still just a potential target for their statistics! :(

So to paraphrase: CAVEAT EMPTOR applies!!:mad::mad:

So, everyone else has to tell the DWP of any little change to their circumstances, no matter how small the claim, yet because you are lucky enough to get awarded a "life" entitlement, it's okay to do whatever and not mention it to anyone?

I'm very new to the whole benefits world, never claimed anything, and have yet to, but i'm very appreciative of what our government is willing to give us, even if we have to stick to a few rules.

Its not a case of not telling anyone and you will notice that I NEVER said that.

To explain: to receive full DLA benefits including including Motability you need Higher Rate Mobility award for a minimum of 3yrs. in the past many if not most awards of Higher Rate DLA are given eventually as "Life" awards, as it is presumed the condition is permanent and medical re-assessment is not required.

However it is now that DWP now looking to reduce claimant numbers due Government pressure, targets need to be met and Disabled Living Allowance is high on target list as costs so much money.

Yes some people shouldn't be getting it but do whilst others fail to get the award when should.

Suppose its not taking things for granted and have learnt by bitter experience as to what should or shouldn't do...so wanted warn other to the perils as not as obvious as first might seem!

I don't favour having to waste public money having DWP weed through tons of extra paperwork generated but then again don't need to give them an excuse to remove a much needed award either.

    Choice is yours...

It is not unreasonable for an organisation giving you money to request you notify them of any change of circumstances that might affect those payments.

Why did you not do so?

I'm slightly confused, your first post is incredibly hard to read.

You got divorced, and moved out, at the time did you tell DWP?

Why does the DLA need to know about changes in your relationships? You don't get more/less DLA for being single/married.

DLA would not need to know, but the DWP would due to the impact on CA, IS etc. I think the OP is a little lost in his understanding.

1, If you're claiming other benefits and the personal information doesn't match that needs to be resolved before payments can be paid.

2, If you call to discuss your claim/request a crisis loan/make a new claim to something different then the questions they will ask to make sure they've got the right person will include personal information like address, partner's details etc.
