Bees nest

Bees are valuable. As long as the beekeeper is able to find the queen, he/she will be able to take the nest. Any bees left behind will die - they won't be able to start another nest.
Of course, they may not be honey bees but one of the other kinds.0 -
Did you manage to contact your local bee-keepers association? I've got a similar problem but haven't contacted them yet. Our roof slopes from the first floor to the ground floor with our patio door being just below the roof which is where the bees are coming/going from. We only have a small garden and I really dislike bees so don't want to avoid the garden all summer! I took a quick picture, definitely look like bees to me.

It doesn't look like a honeybee. The picture isn't very clear but it looks like one of the bumbles. Bumble bees are very placid and rarely sting.0

Looks exactly like a honey bee. I just hope you all leave the bees alone they are having a hard time these days and will not do you any harm.0

That's easy to say when you don't have a serious phobia about them.0 -
SimbaK2K,
I have not had chance to ring the local beekeeper, my DD was involved in a hit and run and, as you can imagine, i have been beside myself.Definately going to ring them today though.0 -

Well there pnly oen way to get over a phobiia confornt you fear. That not a honey bee its a bumble bee of some description. They are a protected species.
The don't tend to form large coney's like honey bee's or wasps. They wont sing you unless you interfere with the nest of try to catch them with you hands.0 -
Littleminx,
I emailed my local association and a elderly chap popped round this evening. Mine were a type of bumble bee and he said if it was honey bees they'd be much more of them. He did say they won't do any harm to the structure of the house which is nice to know and they will die out later on in the year. I'm going to leave them to 'bee' for now as they shouldn't really cause any bother, I just need to get over my irrational fear of flying buzzy things! Glad they are bumble bees and not honey bees as they seem to cause the most hassle by storing honey causing other insects to return long after the honey bees have gone which I really wouldn't appreciate. He did say you could get rid of them so obviously not protected as such but that I shouldn't need to as they won't sting.0 -
I have just discovered a nest. It is in quite a difficult place to access i.e. towards the back of a conservatory which is more or less impossible to get to with ladders! I feel alot better reading this thread because I know how important bees are and I was looking at ways to remove them. If they will eventually naff off without re-enacting a scene from "killer bees" then I am happy for them to stay!!0
