Bees nest

Not sure if this is in the right place, feel free to move.

Over the last week or so i have noticed a lot of bees coming and going from under the gutter at the back of my house, seems i may have a nest there. As they are protected can anyone tell me what i can do about them and who i need to contact?

Many thanks in advance.

Are you sure they are bees and not wasps?

Either ring the local council and get them to deal with them.

Or if you are sure they are bees a local bee keeper maybe able to help you.

The local council dealt with my wasps about 2 years ago and chaged me £45 I think, not had a problem since.

Just leave them, they won't stay for more than a few weeks. I love my bees :)

Hi all, thanks for your quick replies.

Yes they are definately bees, but the council will not deal with them as they are a protected species.I am just going to look at the beekeepers association's website, hopefully someone will come and take them away and soon!

The council won't touch bees, just wasps. Bees are protected and you cannot legally disturb their hives.

Your best bet is to try and get hold of a local bee keeper who may be able to come and take them away for you.

    Hijacking the thread - sorry.

Husband has just been speaking to our next door (adjoining via our garages) neighbour who is having the flat roof on his garage redone at the moment. His builder has spotted a bees nest in the roof area of what was our garage (but has now been converted to a bedroom for our son). Definitely bees, not wasps.

Is it ALL bees that are protected, or just one "type" - honeybee or bumble bee etc?

Apparently Hootie19 this applies to all bees, according to my local council.

Thank you littleminx. I've had a quick look at the local beekeeper's website and they say they will come and remove swarms, but make no mention about nests. Will give them a call tomorrow, and see what they suggest.
