I was only looking for some inspiration and ideas from others who have been on city breaks with young children.

I don't think your getting any ideas because the majority of people wouldn't take a 3 year old on a city break its boring. 3 year olds like beaches, water and other kids not traipsing round the local church or museums. If you only want a short flight and definitely city, then probably Barcelona is your best bet or Palma they're only a couple of hours flight time and they are near beaches as well.

That was the point I made in my first post.

I appreciate you're 'looking for inspiration' but you really need to give more information - as per phatbear & rickardw's questions.

I wouldn't normally choose a city break for a family holiday but it's my 40th birthday and we were looking to do something a little different.

Thanks for the ideas that have been posted (Barcelona is a great idea - have been there before and loved it - and it is family friendly).

Go to Legoland in Denmark, it's like a city break in a way, but your 3 year old should have fun too.

    Cheapo flights with Ryanair
Stay at the Zleep hotel at Billund airport, book in advance for a cheapy
Grab a 2 for 1 voucher from ebay to save some pennies on the park entry fee

We're doing the same with our 7 year old for his birthday. Got the whole lot for 160 quid, job done.

We have been on several city breaks with our son who is now 6. Some suggestions would be

Krakow-lovely city at that time of the year and there are water parks/theme parks that you could visit just outside of the city.
Barcelona-you could have a couple of days on the beach-Barcelona has its own or you could take the train along the coast.
Budapest-you could vist Lake Ballaton for a day or two
    Paris-and visit the obvious :)
Lisbon-also has great beaches easily accessible and Parque de Nation would entertain most children for a while.

Just a few suggestions, but don't be afraid of taking a young child away, just make sure you include some child friendly things, at worst most cities have great parks!

Thanks for the ideas guys. We're quite adventurous with our little one and have travelled quite extensively with him. Not quite sure why some people think a few hours flight is such a big deal with young children :)

Because they probably haven't done it.
Took my son when he was 3 to india, he slept most of the flight and loved the whole experience. He still loves travelling and planes but at 30 he doesn't need me to hold his hand;)

The Italians all love children, we toured the south with 2 kids, and they were welcome everywhere.
