Baby milk powder price increase!!!!

Hi i know i don't ever post but i thought this was worth a mention! I buy my baby milk powder from a friend who works for Wyeth pharmacutical company. I can usually buy a large 900g tin of SMA stage 2 for roughly £4.47. In shops this is about £7 odd. however when i went there today it seems they have updated their prices and will now be selling it for £7 something. This got me thinking that because they supply this milk and can offer it at a fraction of the cost is there something happening that will make formula more expensive in supermarkets too? If this is the case then i can only imagine that the equivalent will be near £10?! I tried to google to see if there is going to be a price increase but didn't manage to find anything? Just thought i'd warn people just in case, it may be nothing. if anyone does know anything on this subject can they please update this post. many thanks

It might be going up in the shops along with everything else (higher petrol costs being passed on etc) or they may have been told that they can't subsidise formula. When my eldest was born 11 years ago, you could buy formula at a reduced rate at baby clinics, SMA the milk I used was £1 a tin cheaper, but there were really big savings on other brands. By the time I'd had second child 3 years later, there were still savings but not as much, then you could still buy but same price as supermarkets, then they stopped selling it altogether at clinics.

How old is your baby though? If the 2nd stage is the one from 6 months to age 2, I didn't bother. I kept mine on the earlier stage milk then changed to cows milk at age 12 months.

I had nearly forgotton the 'pain' it cost to buy baby milk for the twins.... we were spending £80 a month:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: boys were on cows milk at 11 1/2 months bit early but there was a price increase and i wasn't going to pay it - they had plently of blue milk in their diet before so not such a hug change for them

My sil is currently cooking no. 8 and has always got her baby milk on perscription as she just says to the dr. that they need soy baby milk

I noticed the other day how it had gone up. 7 pounds something is Morrisons and 9 pounds something in Co-operative
Mad Mum to 3 wonderful children, 2 foster kittens and 2 big fat cats that never made it to a new home!
Aiming to loose 56 pounds this year. Total to date 44.5 pounds 12.5 to go. Slimming World Rocks!

The cheapest we've found the Cow and Gate first stage milk is in mothercare, it's £7.25 compared to to £7.55 in Asda. Not much but it's a bit of a saving. My mam was outraged when I told her how much it cost and she said it had shot up since she's bottle fed me and my sister. It was 26 years ago mother, did you really think it'd cost the same?!

Oh and congrats vroombroom! I see u went 12 days over in the end. I was 15 bloody days! And like you I'm bottle feeding but haven't really encountered any of the militant "breast is best" brigade!x

I am so shocked at how expensive formula is, I bottle fed my son but he is 8 now, I think I paid about £3.50 a tub from the HV.

We have them out in force up here, had the HV pretty much tell me I was a failure and the BF support worker out three times to try to get me start again. Doesn't seem to register with them my son won't take my breast and screams blue murder when I tried x

OP have you tried the cartons as well? We get 12 for £4.97, usually for the night feeds x
