Parking enforcement notice from Luton Airport APCOA

I received an APCOA '01' invoice yesterday (02/11/11) and right up until now and reading this forum I was about to pay. It's scare-mongering and also I was concerned that if I didn't pay within 14 days the fee would double and at £80 I simply cannot justify it. So now, what do I do? Ignore it? I am concerned as I do not want bailiffs knocking at my door and threatening letters either.
All I did was drop my daughter and her fiance off at Luton Airport around the bus stop area outside the departure doors. I didn't even stop the engine and was there no longer than one minute.
What are my rights? Please help with some reassurance. Thanks0 -
Bailiffs just can't "knock on your door. The law doesn't work like that. For them to get involved the case has to go to court ( very unlikely) you lose ( very, very unlikely and then you refuse to pay whatever the judge orders. Tis is such a remote possibility that it's not worth worrying about, especially as this company have never taken anyone to court.
Perhaps you are confusing bailiffs with debt collectors who are just powerless private individuals and never turn up an anyone's house. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0 -
BE WARNED !
People who do pay hoping it goes away, are usually hit with more "FAKE fines" for late payment charges, even if they "dont pay late, they just keep coming back and back for more money until you do ignore them.
So you will have to ignore them sooner or later, or give them everything you have.
These are scams, pay one and see what happens next....They come back...Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

Interestingly enough there IS a respected solicitor in Hertfordshire called Graham White. He's obviously nothing to do with Roxburghe or whatever they're calling themselves today and none too pleased at them using his name (which is against Law Society regulations). Can I help?0 -

We understand so yes, and this has been mentioned in a several posts before. Of course Law Society 'rules' would only apply if you were a member of the law society and hence I suspect there is nothing that can be done!0 -

Forgive me if I am wrong but I think you mean you have read this single (pretty old) thread, not the actual current forum it sits on and the current threads?
Have you read the sticky threads at the top of the forum? Not that the advice to ignore is any different - it's not - but you have missed soooo much information which is there for newbies to learn about the 'fake PCN' scam.
Just go back a step, get off this thread and look at the current board view. See above where there's a blue link chain starting Home > Forums > etc., etc? Just go back a step from this thread name (same with any forum thread you stumble across with aGoogle search - read it but don't bump it with a reply, as you will often get few replies on someone else's old thread).
In this case, the step you want to click on is as mentioned in my signature. Here you go:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=163
Then you can view the whole board, stickies (info threads) at the top as with any forum. You want 'PPC letters, what to expect' and 'welcome, please read before posting' with the Watchdog clip.
You won't be unsure once you have seen the Watchdog clip and know you can just tick off the letters as they predictably arrive. You cannot just get a CCJ and they cannot send the boys round, cannot make you pay their unsolicited demand any more than a Nigerian phishing email scammer could.
HTHPRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Hello all,
I seem to be victim of the £80 luton airport drop off scam!
What makes matter worst for me is that I was in a rented car and the car rental company is passing my details on as the driver of the car at time of the fine to the APCOA...
Shall I worry as it may give them more grounds or simply ignore the whole things?
Any people with a rented car that I have had the same problem and simply ignore it?
Thank you for re-assuring me..

Well if the hire company is passing on your details , that is a step in the right direction for them, just make sure they are not adding an admin charge for doing so, also make sure you put in writing to them that they are not to pay the parking company anything if they go back to them.
Of course once the parking company is writing to you just ignore them completely unless signed and stamped court papers arrive.Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?0 -
Thank you taffy056. I will make sure to the transfer "the fine" in my name untouched then will apply the ignore route.
The only thing that worries me is that the car rental company will most likely have designated me as the driver..
