Oh yes, I'd forgotten those exist. Basically the engine is the wrong way around in that car.
For a bit more size and practicality than a roadster, how about a Nissan Skyline GTSt. Lovely smooth 2.5 inline 6 turbo engine, RWD, and you should be able to get a decent condition R34 for that money.. a bit thirsty though.0 -

Anyone driven the Z3 or 4?Je suis sabot...0

What other roadsters are out there?
BMW Z4
Audi TT
Porsche Boxster
Mercedes SLK
But I'd choose the MX-5 - its as much fun but half the running costs. If necessary fit a boot rack or hire a car when something more practical is needed?
Or you could go to a 4-seat convertible, in which case you're looking at Audi A3, A4, A5, BMW 1, 3 or 6 series, Merc CLK or E-class, Volve C70. There are also some peugeots (308?), Fiat 500, VW beetle but they're probably too small.0 -

Yes both great cars, but not exactly going to take the luggage of royal honeymoon.
Which brings you back to a 3 Series Coupe which will drive like you want and have enough space.0 -

Had a Z3 for years, now got a Z4 coupe. As said, both great cars but the Z3 & Z4 convertibles don't have huge boots. The Z3's boot was fine for us on long weekends away, but for longer holidays there's not enough room. The Z4 convertible's boot is a bit bigger than the Z3's, but not much. The Z4 coupe's boot is much bigger (relatively speaking - it's never going to be an estate car) and was more than enough for a week's holiday (plus the stuff we bought while away) a couple of years ago.
The problem with small sports cars is that they tend to have small boots.0 -

Thanks for all your suggestions. There is nothing really to touch the MX5 on price/running costs/fun. I guess the best suggestion is just to hire a bigger car for the hols. It's the only car I have ever owned that I really looked forward to getting into in the morning (except icy ones!).Je suis sabot...0 -

Im sure the wife wouldn't complain if it was a nice shiney new one“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
