Anything like an MX5?

I have to say that convertible is not the main priority. There is only so much open-top driving you can take in this country. It's more the precise feel of the Mazda that I liked.Does it have to be a convertible, or is it more the fun and reliability you're bothered about?Je suis sabot...0 -
Your box of tissues must be big. We managed a 2 week camping holiday in a MX-5, we did have a boot rack.
How about a BMW 3 Series convertible? But is the soft top bit important?
I must say I hadn't tried strapping the dog to a boot rack.....
Seriously, it is holidays etc. that is the problem. You can have no idea how much holiday luggage the wife needs.....Je suis sabot...0 -

If you're wanting driving experience, better. You get the full feel of the road and every journey is one where you'll wonder if you'll make it back. My 2L had acceleration as good as my wife's V6 FTO basically because it wasn't hampered by emissions gubbins.
I ran one as a daily runner for half a decade, sometimes doing 500 miles a week. Never let me down, every single journey brought a grin to my face and if it wasn't for the fact my back injury means I can't even sit in one now, I'd still be running one.0 -
I would rather not wonder wheter I am going to get home......
Is the Audi TT any good? Probably above budget but does it have that sports car feel and a boot? Or the BMW Z3/4?Je suis sabot...0 -
Audi TT has a decent boot and can certainly shift, but it's 4WD system is very very FWD biassed and the one I had was very unreliable despite still being under warranty. I'd be scared of owning a second hand one.
Never driven the BMWs but they are at least RWD and naturally aspirated, so stand a better chance of being like your MX50 -

I'd take the MX5..... MX5 would have far better driver appeal than a Capri... Performance Handling Reliability Weight everything so far as it would easily show a Capri a clean set of heels... Remember theres years between the 2.... Things move on...
The FTO is it manual or Auto?..... I remember the Autos being a waste of time?....Mid 9's to 60?.0
