hi...is in post no 7.....Work to live= not live to work0 -
I too remember the bad snow of the early 1980s - I lived in a place called Scapegoat Hill then, 1100 feet up in the Pennines. Driving back from where I worked at the time, St Luke's Maternity Hospital in Bradford, I had to abandon the car on Manchester Road, Huddersfield and ended up sleeping on a friend's sofa for 3 nights.
We always tried to have 2 weeks' of food in. I still think a bit like that although where I live now is completely different. DH went shopping last evening while I was at college and we really have got a lot of tins and packets of everything in. The freezer is well-stocked too. All that you normally buy including things like loo rolls - try to have extra. Candles too, in case of power-cuts.
Apparently our 24-hour Tesco was nearly empty last evening - DH was surprised, he thought it would have been busy.

Off topic (sorry) but wanted to ask you Margaretclare what you are doing at college? I notice a lot of your posts, and feel like I know a fair bit about you (admiringly, not stalking lol). I will shortly have more time on my own hands, after years of responsibility for aged parents, so was thinking about what I could do that is worthwhile and interesting.
I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

don't forget, shampoo, soap powder, cleaning products..........also stock cubes, rice, dried veggies handy too for stews, soups and savory rice. Salt and shovel too.
Matchs amazing how many have candles and no matchs.
Also a good pile of books and crosswords handy if snowed in and can't get to work when no power. Hot water bottles and thermals for lack of heating.
Finally make sure you have top up on moblie and your insurance details handy just in case.
