Geordie Joe - No one seems to be listening to you...LOL

They are, they just won't back down and admit they were wrong. Because that would be admitting they didn't read the Op correctly in the first place and went off half cocked thinking the thread was about "is pepper a condiment".

i understand what your saying but according to tesco.com it comes under herbs and spices which includes peppercorns and ground pepper

You still don't get it, do you?

The question isn't "is pepper a condiment", because the OP didn't buy pepper. The question is "are peppercorns a condiment" because that is what the OP bought and tried to use a condiments voucher on.

i use peppercorns whole when I pickle onions - they go into the pickling vinegar. I also use whole peppercorns in receipes where they are called for.

    Steak sauce = condiment?
    Pickles = condiments?

I don't know why people are getting so uptight - it's just a discussion!

"These sauces are normally brown or orange in color and often made from tomatoes, spices, vinegar, and raisins and sometimes anchovies."

Your link basically agrees with what geordie joe was saying, peppercorns are not a condiment, in your link they are referred to as a spice.

The finished article which includes peppercorns is something totally different than peppercorns alone.

Saying peppercorns is pepper, is like saying oil is petrol. Yes I think I will go stick 50 litres of oil in my car and see what happens.

    It says

Steak sauce (in North America)—brown sauce (in the British Isles)—is a generic term for a dark brown sauce commonly served as a condiment for meat.

Thus contributing to a condiment....I know it's a spice but tomatoes are a fruit AND a veg...you can be more than one thing at a time.....depending on how you look at things.

And can't you run some engines on chip oil? :D

The fact still remains that peppercorns are only one ingredient of those 'condiments' (if you insist that they are).

So basically if you have a voucher for bread then you should be able to spend it on any ingredient used to make bread?

I am unsure why people are persisting in arguing?

I couldn't give a monkey's about a voucher - I'm interested in the argument - if we didn't have differing opinions then we may as well all lie down and give up the ghost.

I got a 25 points voucher if I spent over £1 on milk, I buy lactolite milk, and the self scan wouldn't accept the voucher, the assistant said it's because you haven't bought milk, I said what do you think this is waving the carton at her, CS added the points.

No. A pepper is a vegetable. Peppercorns are herbs and spices. Ground pepper is a condiment.

    Hehe...methinks a pepper is a fruit. ;)

As for the peppercorns...I'm with these posters..:)

I don't agree with peppercorns being a condiment either.

    Pepper is, peppercorns aren't, IMO.

Peppercorns are not a condiment until they are ground to make pepper.
