Is this a moneysavingforum?
OP buys a very small car, finds it not fit for purpose and has to go out and buy another one.
You couldnt make it up
Having said that I owned a carina for 8 years from 1 year old, never had anything wrong with it, was even on original exhaust when sold at 9 years old0 -

Would you suggest that because I need a big car for 7-8 weeks of the year I buy and run a big car all year round then?
Tried that, wallet didn't like it much.harveybobbles wrote: »Often see white ones on eBay with that mileage and they usually make really good money! Usually been Scottish taxi's.
6 year old white ones have probably done loads of runs to and from Glasgow Airport. IIRC 6 years is the age limit.
This one I've seen is a fair bit older, and silver. Also in Glasgow though.0 -
What went wrong then? Safety tech increasing weight?Distinct lack of sub-£300 cars around here, all seem to be miles and miles away
Thats because many are worth that in scrap. Very little that will actually make it to the end of the road for under £600 in East Yorks.0 -
Not forgetting the Eastern Europeans shipping all the older cars home, they can be seen with car transporters fully loaded up with cars over 10 or so years old and the rest crash damaged repairables all going to Poland/Bulgaria/Latvia/Lithuania, when coming home I pass about 3 every day parked up near Purfleet and the Dartford Bridge, ready to head to Dover.
If you consider that I am only one person, driving a single route home then there must be hundreds of these cars going out of the UK every day!0 -
<£300? Buy an old Daewoo with short ticket. As reliable as most European cars, and just about the only thing at that price level that is likely to be in reasonable condition.0

Looking for ANYTHING with a short ticket
Saw a 2.0 petrol Saab 900 but 25MPG doesn't sit well with me0 -
Meh. 3000 miles? Wouldn't be bothered about 25mpg in all honesty. That's what, £200 difference in fuel? Not worth bothering about.0
-
It's worth bothering about when your primary use of the car is for getting to and from work (so no mileage allowance) and insurance costs are bad enough0

And thats the thing. He seems to think that 500 miles a week is quite high suggesting that his usual mileage is the average of 10k a year. He says about the PCP hit but it'll be a lot less than the £500 its actually going to cost him for the £300 car
As for the claims about the luggage, thats just laughable and if you think your car isn't up to carrying a few suitcases, you should get shut of it unless its a MR2 or 2 seater sports car in which case, thats the point.0
