You could say that littlevoice, or you could say its being subsidised out of the millions the nhs pays microsoft in user licenses, which means in turn that we all subsidise it as tax payers. Personally I dont rate Microsoft Office, and i wouldnt pay 18 quid for it. Some other posts have said its good to have same software at home that you have at work. But for those that use the non-microsoft alternatives there is greater benefit. More reliability/stability. no/little compatibility issues. Free. No p&p costs. Not encouraged to do nhs work at home for free (though i bet most people take time owing for this anyway). Also, the more people use this HUP, the more the NHS will continue to use microsoft, which means more money given to microsoft which could be used to claw back some of the debts they are racking up. Less money for nhs = less jobs, lower pay and poorer clinical care.

And whichever "IT" worker that said microsoft is really good.... well i will keep it friendly but i dont know a respected IT worker that finds Microsoft in any way better than other companies/software. Most of the best computer software/languages are freewares.

Someone else said the nhs doesnt offer enough in-house computer training. Well all i have to say about that is ECDL. How to get pointless certificates in microsoft office and a certificate in how to use email and the internet. Tut. If microsoft is so good, why do so many private companies use non-microsoft software?? why is unix preferred over windows OS??

People will pay £18 p&p charge but not £12 bank charge... hmmmmmmm!!!! People pay £18 for MS Office when free alternatives are available..... hmmmmmm!!!! this thread is is in freebies, no spend required...... but you need to spend to get the software..... hmmmmmm!!!! Im off to t' rant board now......hmmmmmmmm!!!!
